Pygmy or Nigerian dwarf?

    Any guesses on the breed of this goat? May be a combination I guess[​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]

    I think I can see traits of both. Thanks for your input. I just took her in on a trade. I don't normally deal with the small ones

    If they are not registered I always assume a mix. It seems most people don't really know the difference and tend to us the term "pygmy" as generic dwarf goat as both came from the same area at one time. They split into the true pygmy which was the meat goat - shorter legs and stockier build and the Nigerian Dwarfs which are more refined, longer legs and great milk producers.

    I would say Pygmy-Nigerian mix. Looks like my mixed girls.

    Usually I see one breed or the other, but this goat really does look like a mix of Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy.

    So, just call her a West African Dwarf since that is the progenitor of both breeds.
