I personally would retreat. I like to do at least 2x 10 days apart to catch all the stages.
I found the threads:Definitely don't give more quest plus. I remember reading on here (I think it was goathiker who said) that quest stays in their system for 28 days and you can overdose them if you give more too soon.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying do cydectin as well as safeguard or valbazen as a next move? Or...I'd say since quest is simply cydectin, give a booster with cydectin sheep drench in combo with another class such as safeguard or valbazen. Then do that once more in 10 days
It is, but last year it didn't work for me during kidding season worm bloom. I dedicatedly tried to treat the high worm loads with herbs, garlic, and EOs, but it did not work. I'm not exactly sure why. Since then I switched from LOH to Fir Meadows, and it's been working for times of little stress, but for post kidding I didn't want to make the same mistake that I did last year of relying on the herbs alone. I've been doing the three days on four days off routine.Herbal regimen still ongoing for your herd?
At the very least you can give the same dewormer at a lower strength if you don't feel comfortable dosing quest again - that means cydectin sheep drench which is moxidectin which is the same as quest. But it should always be done with a second class of a benzimidazole or albendazole, safeguard or valbazen. Single worming at this point is a thing of the past for you.I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying do cydectin as well as safeguard or valbazen as a next move? Or...
I am aware the differences between quest and quest plus, but the plus with praziquantel is simply there to fight tapeworms and flatworms--it will not have an effect on gastrointestinal nematodes such as barberpole worm.Quest is moxidectin (which is Cydectin)
Quest Plus is moxidectin + praziquantel
I would do another fecal after the 28 days are up as long as her FAMACHA is fine and she is acting fine.
I'd rather not spend the money on cydectin since I don't have great faith in chemicals at this point, could I get normal quest--not quest plus, since that is moxidectin and then dose that along with valbazen since I have that on hand?At the very least you can give the same dewormer at a lower strength if you don't feel comfortable dosing quest again - that means cydectin sheep drench which is moxidectin which is the same as quest. Is her FAMACHA and body condition okay? Barring a fecal she looks good?I'd rather not spend the money on cydectin since I don't have great faith in chemicals at this point, could I get normal quest--not quest plus, since that is moxidectin and then dose that along with valbazen since I have that on hand?
I would still be cautious treating with Quest too soon. Even without the plus the strength of the Moxidectin is the same, your just removing the praziquantel.could I get normal quest--not quest plus, since that is moxidectin and then dose that along with valbazen since I have that on hand?
Her body condition is not very good. I need to check FAMACHA. She's nursing four right now so her condition going downhill could be due to that fact. In the past while lactating she has handled numbers in the 400 range just fine, but I will certainly check FAMACHA tomorrow. Is her FAMACHA and body condition okay? Barring a fecal she looks good?
I think you are right. I didn't really want to do more chemicals anyway since I wanted to start milking her soon.I would try the herbals acutely now. See how it goes.
Barberpole is what I'm dealing with. So you do Ivermectin or safeguard alone as a booster for quest? What worms are you attempting to kill? Quest + is for barber pole worms. Usually at the 10 day mark, either Safeguard or Ivermevtin. And thats after a fecal.
Do I need to space out the time between giving the DWA and GI Soother? Or can I give them at the same time?Do DWA and GI Soother at double the normal dose every 3 hours during the day for 3 days, then double the normal dose 2-3x per day for another 10 days.
Essential oils as per Cathy's usual program.
Add Tummy Trouble Paste 2x daily for 5 days:
1/2 teaspoon of cayenne, cinnamon, slippery elm bark powder, and ginger (can be substituted for a slice of raw ginger the size of a quarter about 1/2 cm thick). Blend with 1 raw clove of garlic, molasses, apple cider vinegar, and enough water to drench.
