Dextrose is also very useful for 'dummy' kids - kids born under very cold circumstances that, for one reason or another, don't get up right away and nurse and subsequently lose their instinct to nurse. Mix it with very warm water at the ratio of 50% dextrose and 50% water in a 60 cc syringe and tube using a weak kid syringe. It is 'brain food' in that it is easily absorbed, and will perk them up and get them sucking.
