I am seriously looking at the Northwest pack goat wooden saddle kit (the oak one). What straps should I get since I think from their internet sure that the kit does not have the straps. We live where there are no mountains. Blackie and I will be walking in all flat terrain except for the occasional pot hole and ruts in the dirt road. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Finished the saddle kit and am very, very pleased. I made a saddle pad for Blackie too.

..What on earth is this? I'm from the UK and clearly we're a lot more boring than you lot! Could someone care to explain what this is and why one would want to use it?

That is a pack saddle for a pack goat. You then attach panniers to the saddle and the goat packs your gear for you. They can be used to pack a hunting camp in and then a harvested animal out. Or used for a weekend of hiking to maybe a remote lake for fishing. Or just a nature hike into some beautiful scenic landscapes. A well conditioned pack goat can carry upto 25% of its body weight but thats on the extreme.

Check with the british harness goat society at harnessgoats.co.uk

There are several packgoats in the U.K. as well
