Hello all,
We just bought 2 beautiful bucks that are 8 weeks. The owner said she feeds them O&A and sweet feed. We were told to keep with this same feed or they will get very sick and have diarrhea. Do y’all usually stick with the feed recommended by the seller? Is it safe to transition them slowly to a Timothy hay and Alfalfa? Or is O&A better over all for them? Just looking for any feedback as we are still new on this journey. 🙂

Orchard hay and alfalfa. They are happy and healthy, we just picked them up!

Give them a few days to settle in, the upset of moving might upset their bellies/systems.
Swap over a 1/4 at a time, shouldn't be a problem. Watch for poop issues.
Are you keeping them bucks or wethering them?

Yes we are keeping them as bucks. We absolutely love them! I will post a pic when we get home. We drove 2 hours to get them. They are beautiful and ADGA registered. Thank you for reply 🙂

Did you bring back a few flakes of hay and some of the sweet feed they have already been eating? I would continue to feed the brand of sweet feed they are accustomed to eating, and then start the transition over to a feed of your choice. Usually, any changes being made to a goats diet needs to be done with small amounts of the new feed added to the feed already being eaten, over a period of a few days to avoid sudden changes to their diets. Those sudden diet changes can cause digestive upset with goats. T/O hay would result in less calcium being added to their diets versus the A/O hay.

We went to feed store and purchased the stuff they were being fed 🙂

Switch over gradually. Everyone feeds differently, find something that works for you . Just always try and switch feeds over a few weeks (if possible).
Abrupt grain changes can cause diarrhea and more serious problems.
