Questions about doe!

I have a 3 year old Pygmy nanny. She was bought bred. Breeder said she would be due end of Dec. or early Jan.

I noticed belly had dropped and hips has sunken earlier in the week. She has had white, sticky, and stringy discharge earlier in the day. From the best I can tell her ligaments are completely gone. I can completely wrap my fingers around her tail head and feel my fingers on either side. Her tail seems to be crooked as well. She is typically a very active goat but today she has mostly laid in the sun or in her stall. She is still eating and drinking well but not bagged up at all. This will be her second kidding. The first time only producing one. She kidded with precious owner so I am not sure what to expect from her.

We are fairly new at this so I am just looking for some answers. All of my research has said that after ligs are gone it is usually 12-48 hours. All of the research has mentioned bagging up being a “tell tale” signs of kidding.

I am just trying to get some opinions and possible timelines from others. We are in record low temps at the moment so I would just like an idea of what to expect in the days to come.

Have you had nanny’s kid with not bagging up until after delivery?

If she has absolutely zero udder, there could be a chance that the discharge you saw was her in heat. However, every doe is different.

Someone else may have shared your experience. I’ve personally never witnessed a doe have zero udder development this close to kidding. Doesn’t mean it can’t happen, I suppose!

Good luck and happy kidding!

This was a thought I had as well. She just has every other sign of kidding and is HUGE. I guess only time will tell. Thank you for your reply!

No problem! I’m sure others have been in your shoes. I know some does like to make udders overnight! These goats love to keep us guessing lol

Also, one more question. In your own opinion. Do she “look” pregnant to you? I know the uterus is on the right side and the right side seems much larger to me.

Did you take any pics of her earlier on, maybe right after you got her so we could see how she looked earlier on in her pregnancy?
I have a doe that didn't get an udder until after she kidded last year as an FF. Rn she is showing signs of getting close to kidding, but still no udder 😂
Do you have any clear pictures of her lady parts?

This would have been September. Not great but all I have. She is 10x bigger than this now haha. I am going to do morning chores and checks right now so I will get lady bits pic. I tried last night but she wouldn’t let me touch or go near her backend and she is NEVER that way. Even kicked at me when trying to feel her udder. So something with her is definitely off. My billy is separate currently but they have a shared fence. She has shown zero interest in him and he has shown zero interest in her so I just don’t think it’s heat. Will follow up soon!

She does look bigger here than the before picture you posted. However, I have had does put on a lot of weight and appear pregnant but never were. It’s a 50/50 shot if I personally had to guess lol. I’d prepare just in case because you might have a random little tot out there when you check on her next time lol.

We would need to see a closer up of her back end with tail up naturally and lady parts/udder showing. The one you have is too far away.

The best I can get. She will not let me near her. She came out of the barn for maybe 3 minutes and went right back in to her stall. Not usual for her. She is very social and head of the herd.

Pooch looks like she is not pregnant but it isn't the best way to tell pregnancy. Some does just hide it well. Honestly hard to say if she is pregnant or not. You could have a blood test done or just wait and see.

Yea she is bigger now, but sometimes they'll just get that way by what they're eating.

How long was she with the Billy?

My doe that is pregnant, (not confirmed but ik she is) is doing the same thing as yours, with not letting me touch her at all lol is there a way you could tie her up? Maybe tie her up to feed her or if u have a stand could u get her on it? Are you sure you're feeling the ligs in the right spot? I don't have a chart but maybe Google how to check ligs on a goat to make sure you're doing it in the right spot.

But I think that if you noticed her sides dropped then it's a good chance she's getting close, cuz we don't see her on a regular basis and we didn't see her last week so even if she hasn't dropped as much as our does normally do, doesn't mean she didn't drop ;)

Back end pic that is clear would def help tell how close she is tho. My does have never gotten any mucusy discharge before the day they kid....before that it's just some crusty dry stuff on their tail, but that's not the same for all goats.

The person I got her from had a fairly large farm and wonderful facility. He kept his nanny’s and billies together. He never separated the billy. He would just separate nursing nanny’s & babies away from the herd.

My nanny’s get alfalfa & roughage.

I’ve done some ligament research and I am pretty certain I am feeling the right spots. I have felt her & my does that I know are not pregnant. (They have never been with billies). She just feel much different then other does. They are harder in that area. She is not. But I am not a vet so who knows lol.

I guess my plans is to wait it out today & tomorrow. If no babies I will request a vet visit for pregnancy check. I just hate not knowing haha.

Thank you for the info!!

The way she's standing in the last picture is how mine was standing yesterday, also the licking the sides is what they do in labor. Her pooch doesn't look super loose yet, but that's not the most reliable way. If you look at one of your other does of the same breed that has not been with a buck, do you see a difference in their pooches?

If she lived with a buck then I would think he would take care of breeding her, it's unlikely she would live with a buck and not get pregnant. When did you buy her?

Checking on other does is good! Especially your first time lol first time I had baby goats I bred both my does.... Not a good idea because I had no clue how to tell or check anything 😂😂😂

Your doe is really pretty tho! Does she have a name?

She is much larger than my other does lol. I have one that is technically overweight at the moment but she eats constantly lol. She is a pig.

I thought the same. When we picked her up I got to witness the billy in action and he does not mess around LOL. He knew his job and made sure it was donelol. He was very adamant.

Her name is Tanya Tucker! All of our goats are named after country music singers. We call ourselves the “Grand Ole Opry goat farm” lol. Thank you! She is my big baby
