Hi this is MamaJenDSP's son. I'm currently in 4H and working on my book. I need to ask some questions to people who use pack goats. If I could get some help that would be awesome. Thanks!

1- Why are goats used for carrying packs?
2- what do you expect from a first year goat?
3- why should goats be able to walk through water?
4- how hard is it to train goats?
5- how do you train goats?
6- why do you use goats instead of other animals?

    1) goats are excellent hikers and easy to train. They can carry 10-15% of their body weight. They do not require a lot of feed, an forage on the trail.
    2) to talk easily with a light weight pack. Able to do simple park trails.
    3) there are times when trails will be wet, muddy, or even flooded, they need to not be afraid to walk them.
    4) if worked with regularly, they are fairly easy to train. They love to hike.
    5) we train ours to walk easily with us on dog leads though many different trails. Then put lightweight dog packs on them to start.
    6) we have goats for milk and meat, so instead of feeding other animals we make the most of the animals we have.
