I picked a bunch of alfalfa today and am letting it dry out and then wanted to feed it to my goats. However, much of it has little, tiny black bugs which look like aphids on the stems. Is there any problem with me still feeding this to my goats? I have both Alpines and Nigerian Dwarfs.
There's a pic of aphids on this link, are these it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphid Or are they blister beetles? Blister beetles are extremely poisonous http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blister_beetle
That was interesting... they are neither of those. They are smaller than the aphids and they are black, really tiny and all clumped together. Hmmm?? I just found them... they are Cowpea Aphids. Anyone know anything about them? I'm researching on line now.
Here are two articles I found, it sounds like it hurts the plant quite a bit, but I'm not sure about the goats though: http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/r1301511.html http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/icm/2003 ... owpea.html
