I took Steve Galchutt's idea and mounted a simple snapshot camera (which also records video) on the end of a 8' piece of lightweight pipe. I bent the pipe to minimize the amount of pipe that is in the camera's field of view. See my first field test here

I learned from this that:
- It is easy to move the camera during shooting, to create interesting live panning effects.
- It seems to actually stabilize the camera. It is easy to hold it steady enough even when walking.
- If you just hold the pipe at different points you can adapt the zoom effect on yourself.
- By holding the boom so the camera is from behind it looks like someone is walking behind you with a camera.

This is a fun gadget!

Thanks for sharing. It makes me want to buy a real video camera instead of using the one on my little digital camera. As is always the case, way too many digital electronics options to figure out what to blow some coin on.
