Meet Kellogg (black) and Ne-Hi (light sable)!

Curious, why do you call the second boy sable?

It is hard to see without clipping, but their dam, Sarah, is a light sable. Her clipped and unclipped photos are on my website. When he was still wet, you could clearly see the dark overlay with the lighter belly and flanks. If you check the ND color genetics chart, you'll see the sable description. Light sable merely lacks the martingale that a regular sable shows.

Yep! Kellogg is BE...he is a carbon copy of his sire! Of course I get all boys out of Sarah two kiddings in a row...she's one of my best milkers LOL...

Thankfully for next year I'll have my new AGS buck covering does...maybe my luck will change.

Thanks Kate - I think people mix up the Sable and Light Sable with Chamoisee or carmel in a pygmy.

I really like that color and now I know what to call it in Nigerian -- yes I reference that nigerian color genetics article all the time! I need to print it out.

You just have to remember that chamoisee MUST have a black belly...thats the quickest way to tell them apart. Sarah really is a lovely goat...I was so happy she cloned herself - just would have been nice if she'd gotten the gender right, LOL!

well that is up for debate but I wont go into all that.

From what the article states the easiest way to tell is the lack of a full dorsal stripe
