I think theres finally a monster in the barnyard. She does OK with hay, but when it comes time for grain she has never stood her ground. There are two sets of sisters and her, all 8 mos old. So gullible me Ok little Booty Queen I'll serve your portion out of a cottage cheese container. Now she won't even look at the feed pans and the competion, altho she could mow her half sisters down like a steam roller but she dont have it in her. So I am now sentenced to a life of feeding her grain by hand?

i have 5 babies 4 were born in feb & 1 the end of march. the older ones would always push Kit Kat out of the grain so i started feeding her by her self. it didn't take long before she would come out with the others & go right to the gate & stand there waiting for hers. it doesn't take long for them to learn bad habits. so like you now i am stuck. makes you wonder who ownes who.

Right on LW!

She may learn to eat other ways if forced to but it does sound like you have been trained well

I would guess that we all have our ones that are like that.

Little Jasper (who isnt' little anymore) was always picked on and bullied by the girls at feeding time. So I would let him out of the pen while I dished out the food and let him eat his share and then let him stay out until the girls were done.

Well the other day someone said to me "why does he get to eat outside the pen?" hehe see even now that he is the second biggest and has horns, knows how to use them and is one the bulllies himself I still let him out to eat his grain. I now tie him up outside the pen and then let him in when the girls are done. Old habbits die hard.

more feed pans?

Me, I would just set out more feed pans. We have about 6 big feed tubs for about 14 goats, they all just run around from pan to pan. We have a couple of fatties that get seperated out till everyone is done eating then they get the crumbs. It works pretty well. I certainly would not hand feed regularly, so good luck getting out of that one. :)

 Yeah it finally occured to me to use more pans maybe I will try it tonite...the others are such little piggies they will probably eat even faster just to have time to push her out of the way. Some of the older does have figured out that when two are busy fighting over one pan the another dives in!

Well Frizie at least they are getting excercise!!

Last nite was one big successful failure, they took turns running to the extra pan and Booty Queen just stood near me expecting her usuual royal treatment. Actually I don't really mind, she knows she's special but she is also very well mannered about it, she doesn't jump up on me or anything.
