Fainting billy around 6 or 7 months old. This morning he looked a little scared but seemed ok. Now he is slightly foaming at the mouth and gritting his teeth. His belly is swelled tight, maybe bloat but not sure from what. All other goats seem fine. Had been fighting hard with an older pygmy buck. Something is not right because he is screaming. Any ideas?
Definitely sounds like bloat, which is an emergency situation. You need to take all food away, and constantly rub the goats rumen (the left side, where he is tight and bloated most.) Get about 1/4 a cup of vegetable oil down his throat and some baking powder rolled into little balls. You need to get him burping or passing gas. Bloat can certainly kill a goat. If all else fails, call a vet. You can stab the rumen to release gas in a dire situation....but I would never do it myself. There is too much that can go wrong with that.
