I have heard yes they can have hay and corn silage, and I have heard no they cannot. Please, help me figure this out.
I would not recommend it....silage can mold quickly and many known cases of listeriosis come from eating silage...
From having cattle and feeding silage: silage is acidic and can cause a lot of tooth wear. I don't know about the rest of it, but because of the way it is stored it CAN have a lot of mold if it isn't packed right. Raw soybeans have a tryptophan inhibitor that will kill pigs. I don't know how it affects goats but everytime I see them as a feed, they are roasted.
I used to feed corn and grass silage to my dairy goats when I had a dairy farm. Never had a problem with it, but we made sure it was put up correctly and didn't have a mold problem. We used the Harvestor air tight silos and it was packed very tight. I've heard raw soybeans are a big no-no.
I would also not feed it. We have tons of cows and steer clear of it also. About 100 head down here now along with 25 goats and pigs. Silage isn't all it's cut out to be. Owner/operator J-T Ranch Dairy Goats NW KS Facebook Fan Page
