Does anyone have any out there? We have some Rhode Island Reds that are great layers, but they don't want to take the nest. I would like to get a few silkies to set for me.

You are right, Silkies are great broodies. I have a Silkie Roo. I was hoping for a hen so I'd have a broodie also, but we are keeping him as the kids love him. Because Silkies are impossible to sex until they are much older it's always a 50-50 chance in getting pullets when you get them as chicks. If you are looking to buy you may want to find an older hen so you know for sure which sex you are getting.

    Good luck.

I will more than likely get a few chicks from the hatchery. You have to get atleast 25 chicks total. So I will get 5 or 10 to make sure I get what I need and fill in the rest with something else. More than likely I will get some meat chickens to total 25. I am just checking to see if anyone has a pair or two to get rid of.
