Hi, I have a 7 1/2 mo old Nigerian Dwarf and I want to breed him to my Full sized LaMancha Doe
who is 16 mos old and has never been bred. I just got her this summer so this is the first time Ive noticed her in heat. She is tail wagging, more vocal, and I saw some clear discharge. She was hanging by his fence this morning rubbing on it and smelling him.
So I take her into the buckling's pen and all she wants to do is head butt him! She does rub on him a little but then starts with the head butting and even biting!

She is quite a bit bigger than him and I'm afraid she might hurt him. He doesn't act like it hurts although she hit him hard in the head. He is acting bucky: blubbering and trying to mount etc.
Is this normal -Older does being mean to younger bucks? I made her stand for him inside his buckhouse and he jumped up on his sleeping platform and mounted her. It looked like he did the deed but I can't be sure from the view I had. I tried to look at her back end to see if there was semen etc but I didnt see any on her vagina but her tail was wet but that could have been from her own discharge from before? No Clue...

I honestly think she wants a male that is bigger and more dominant than her. I want to breed for mini Manchas so I want this buckling because he has his milk star etc.
Any thoughts on all this? lol

Sometimes you have to hold a first time lady still for the guys.

That's good to know. She is just so vicious..its like she is a black widow lol!! Maybe I'm just not used to being a goat madam haha.
Does anyone think that there's a chance that the breeding 'took'? I read the female will hunch up when bred if it took but she didnt seem to do that..it was all so quick lol..talk about Ten Second Tom:heehee:

Are you sure she was in heat when you tried to breed them? Goats have a 21 day cycle.

I had a mature doe who refused a young buck lol..flat out refused him..had him cowering in a corner lol..but as mentioned new to the game girls may need to be held still. A Nigie can def get the job done but may need a platform. We are fancy here and use a plyboard on a tire lol. It works. Your buck is also young so may need a bit more time to get the job done. We want to see 3 successful attempts to feel good about the breeding. And yes..he is successful when she tucks her rear. And he will need time to reboot before a second attempt.

I am new at this so, No, I am not 100% that she was in heat lol but she had signs like clear discharge which I havent seen on her before, flagging, she was very interested hanging by his fence and rubbing on it, also much more vocal than usual. Since Lamanchas are fall breeders I am guessing this is her first heat since I've had her. Its been a hot summer in Florida and we are starting to finally get some cooler weather.
She doesn't like new goats and takes her a while to warm up to them anyways and the buckling is fairly new too. She is also the boss and most dominant goat we have. She is a real sweetie to people.

I will try again tomorrow if she still seems like she is still in heat.
The buckling has a sleeping platform in his 10x7ft buckhouse which is pretty big for that little squirt lol. The sleeping platform just luckily, turned out to be the perfect height for him to mount her. As far as I know, she is his first mating as well. So there ya go...none of us know what we are doing (rofl)
I just hope she doesnt try to kill him tomorrow lol.

Well Ms evil black widow came back into heat today and has been standing by the buck pen mooing at the buckling so obviously the last breeding didnt take. I put her in w him today and she was actually standing for him but he couldnt reach and when I try to get her to back up to the platform, she goes nuts. She hates anyone touching her collar and/or trying to hold her in one spot. She's such a pillsometimes lol. The buckling got tired out trying so I took her back out to give him a rest for a few hrs. Who knew getting these girls bred was gonna be such hard work for the owner!

Ohhh I just put them back in together nd he jumped up on a upside down water container and mounted her while I held her. He definitely mated her and there was semen deposited..you know where...it was kinda coming out when they were done..I am gonna try again later.

Its ok... we've seen it before. Lol that's why I tease others with prego does, since we check vulvas, udders , & teets during late pregnancy,I call it goat porn. We are always posting pics on this to see how close to birthing date...
    You just got initiated...lol:devil:

Lamacha's are known for being mean to other goats. Lamachas have a strong seniority instinct. funny they are super kind to humans
that will change when she is in heat.
We use a bale of straw for the buck to stand on if they are small

That is funny to me. My LaManchas and all the herds I knew were sweet with people and other goats. I had an Alpine that was horrible to other goats and the breeders of Alpines that I know have the same problem of Alpines being mean to each other. I'd own a LaMancha again in a heartbeat but I will never again own an Alpine.

Screenshot_20200620-211357_Video Player.jpg One of my LaManchas is super sweet to people and the other goats. They other one is the herd queen and fairly pushy when it comes to food. She is fairly nice to the other goats once she knows them and the goats know & stay in their place lol.
One thing Ive learned about the Lamanchas is they are wicked smart! They watch how you do things..like opening various gate latches and carbiner hooks etc. Then they open them! You can almost see them calculating and turning over problems in their heads lol. They read your emotions and act accordingly to get attention be it positive or negative attention. The older lamancha makes sure to see where I am at & if I'm watching her before she tries to open a gate or push another goat out of her way, or steal someone's treat.
I really like the Lamanchas. I originally only planned to have Nigerians but came across an ad for a Lamancha breeder who was moving to the West Coast and selling out her herd. I always loved their cool tiny ears and heard great things about their milk. I went to see them and fell in love. My younger one was a bottle baby, the full younger sister of the older doe. Their mom was the herd Queen.
The above photo is is my younger Lamancha girl when I got her. She is 7 mos now.

I only recently got the buckling, then I just got another 9 wk old buckling. They both have their *B milk merits. The older Lamancha is warming up to the older buck but the newest one Im making sure to keep away from her till he's older. He is still a baby. I got him for company to the older buckling because he was so lonesome. Plus, I bought the older buckling's sister and she will need an unrelated buckling to mate with.
Older buckling (same one as above)
