Have heard through the grapevine (though not yet confirmed) that the company that was importing american dairy goat semen into australia has abandoned the project ... I am just gutted ... I was planning big things with that semen. No nigerian dwarfs this year
thanks guys ... a breeder reasonably close to me was betting big on the pygmy semen as well ... she would have promoted the pygmy side of mini goats and I would have been doing the nigerians ... so we are both very disappointed. Not to mention the hopes I had for improving my nubians udders. back to the drawing board I guess! milkmaid no there arent any nigerians (or pygmies) in australia
Not really. Unless I win the lottery. Here's a link to the import requirements if we want to get semen or embryos into Australia from the US http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_ca ... essionID=0
That would be disappointing. I'm sorry. Any idea when they might pick up the project again? Maybe if enough people write the company and tell them how much they were looking forward to it, they will decide to revisit the project.
I wonder how far along they were in the process? Did they have a US farm willing to participate? Sounds like you have to kill the doe if you are getting embryo's...but...that seems the only bad part...won't be doing that of course. The rest just seems like the usual import/export pooh, pooh. Have you talked to anyone that was involved in the program? You know these regulations are meant to protect Austrailia, which is appropriate, it's an island after all. But, they are usually not meant to be "exclusionary" (is that a word?). Are their other folks that would be willing to purchase the semen? How many straws can one of those shippers hold? We just have to figure out if you can get enough semen shipped to lower the cost/straw? :GAAH:
Absolutely we need to kill the donors of embryos and sperm ... there is no getting around that ... Yes there were plenty of people wanting this semen ... the company was going to be charging $100 a straw which is not bad at all ... The hard part is getting around all the health requirements. I am waiting to hear back from the company, hoping they will let me know what went wrong and whether they are going to pursue it or throw the towel in completely
