Stud Service Questions

Hey guys! I have decided to stud out my ADGA registered Nigerian Dwarf buck to a lady who has a few ADGA registered does and she wants to register the kids. I'm not exactly sure what's required from me in order for her to be able to do that, but I think I'll have to fill out ADGA's Service Memo form (https://adga.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/adga-service-memo.pdf), correct?

Also, I'm currently not a ADGA member, but I have transferred my buck's paper into my name. Will I have to become a ADGA member in order for this to all work out?

This is all pretty new to me as I've never studded out my buck before and really, just the registration part is confusing me (I pretty much have everything else all figured out). I would really appreciate it if someone could please explain everything to me!

Thanks in advanced!

Is she keeping him a while or just using him on does?

If she is keeping him a bit, you can do a lease. If not, a simple service memo for each doe is needed. He just needs to be in your name, registered with ADGA, and you don't have to be a member.

Thanks! She will only be keeping him for a month. So I would use this form then, right? https://adga.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/adga-buck-lease-form.pdf In that form, it makes it look like I have to be a member though.... Can I not use service memo forms since she's keeping him for a bit?

Yes, a lease is more long term or if they are using the buck on a lot of does, because you have to fill out a service memo for each doe he services. The lease basically says the other person "owns" that animal for that period of time so the kids will retain their herd info.

Dandy, I'm glad you asked this! This is something I've been wondering about.

I’ve heard ADGA is extremely hard to deal with if you do the lease, and would recommend you just fill out a service memo or each doe.
As far as you not being a member-I’m not sure if/how it impacts the process.

That's good to know. Thanks! She's only using him on three does so I think service memos are the way to go!

Is she breeding for 2022 kids or 2023 kids? If I remember correctly, all bucks must be DNA typed going forward for 2023 for registration.

She'll be having kids this fall...good point though.
I've done leases on 2 different animals through ADGA, we've never had any problems. But yea, service memos are best. And yes, bucks have to be DNA typed before kids can be registered, depending on how quick she is planning on breeding.
