Tetanous Antitoxin dosage

    I have only used this once following a vets instructions but I dont remember the instructions.

    So what is the dosage for a kid when you are going to disbud?

    I have no idea either, I guess I have never thought about it because we do not disbid.

    well it would be for prevention as I wont be giving the Toxoid till they are 9 weeks.

    According the the Hoegger Supply catalog it is 2 1/2 cc for prevention

    We give 2cc to our minis before disbudding :)

    I just give the whole bottle. I have never tried to just pull up a specifuc amount.

    I just give 1cc. Thats what my vet told me I could give and what another breeder around here told me to give.

    thanks - so anywhere between 1 and 2 1/2ccs to the whole bottle LOL well I can work with that

    Lol, I didn't even give my horse the whole bottle before he was castrated, but thats just me. :wink:

    Well the vet told me it was only one dose in that bottle. :worried: He didn't specify any breed or weight of animal. :sigh: Also if the animal contracts tetanus it takes a bunch of those little bottles :shocked: . Now the toxoid would be different and thats a bigger bottle. :greengrin:

    Oh I'm not saying your wrong to give the whole bottle. I just don't. I really wish it would specify the dose better.

    Giving the whole bottle of antitoxin might not be neccessary, but it wouldn't hurt anything--all that's in it is antibodies. If an animal was at high risk for exposure, I probably would give the whole bottle, in fact. It's not like a vaccine...which has weakened pathogens that could possibly cause an infection if overdosed. With antitoxins more can actually be better.
