I have a couple boer whethers I recently got and one went down suddenly (yesterday). He is about 8 mo old and had no shots of any kind as a kid and was wethered about a month ago.
Anyways symptoms last night were bloat and inability to stand and he can't open his mouth. I set him upright and got some pepto into him with some water and a B-12 injection. His rumen was making all sorts of noises and after a little massaging he started to chew his cud at normal intervals. Odd part is that he doesn't appear to be able to open his mouth. I had to slip everything in through the side. He can swallow and sorta chew, but i cannot open his mouth. I looked online and some of the possible causes all called for antibiotics, so he got some duramycin.
He made it through the night and the bloat is gone. He had normal stool and doesn't appear to be feverish. His mouth is still locked and his hind legs are very stiff. He can bend his neck and stand if i put him on his feet. He can move around a little and was very interested in the calf manna I offered him this morning, but can't open his mouth to eat them. I used a drench gun to get some water in him and some probios. I shoved a couple calf manna pellets in there too and he chewed them as well.
He has no open wounds that I can find and is not crying in pain. He only makes noised when he falls over and stops when I set him upright.
Also, his castration was done by crushing a blood vessel and not banding.
Is there any more I can do?
