I have a couple boer whethers I recently got and one went down suddenly (yesterday). He is about 8 mo old and had no shots of any kind as a kid and was wethered about a month ago.

Anyways symptoms last night were bloat and inability to stand and he can't open his mouth. I set him upright and got some pepto into him with some water and a B-12 injection. His rumen was making all sorts of noises and after a little massaging he started to chew his cud at normal intervals. Odd part is that he doesn't appear to be able to open his mouth. I had to slip everything in through the side. He can swallow and sorta chew, but i cannot open his mouth. I looked online and some of the possible causes all called for antibiotics, so he got some duramycin.

He made it through the night and the bloat is gone. He had normal stool and doesn't appear to be feverish. His mouth is still locked and his hind legs are very stiff. He can bend his neck and stand if i put him on his feet. He can move around a little and was very interested in the calf manna I offered him this morning, but can't open his mouth to eat them. I used a drench gun to get some water in him and some probios. I shoved a couple calf manna pellets in there too and he chewed them as well.

He has no open wounds that I can find and is not crying in pain. He only makes noised when he falls over and stops when I set him upright.

Also, his castration was done by crushing a blood vessel and not banding.

Is there any more I can do?

Get Tetanus antitoxin in him now...give him the full 4 cc... Check his castration..had the sack follenoff..any infection or open wounds need to be cleaned..begin penicillin ASAP
No it hasn't fallen off. It is just rock hard and looks like his brothers. I'm leaving work now to go get antitoxin now.

is that 4 cc every 12 hrs? or 4cc for the first dose and less thereafter? how long of a course of medication?

We are already giving B vitamin complex subq ~2cc/2xday

I would give the 4 cc every 12 hours,I would continue treatment for a full 24 hours after he is 100% better, when he is fully recovered, re boost his C D&T 10 days after the last tetanus antitoxin shot for long term protection...be sure to give him the tetanus antitoxin before messing with the testes area ...protect him from further toxin release.. Check the banding to be sure there is no infection noticable outwordly to tend to..
He got his anti toxin and I took a look to see if there was any wounds or infection. He wasn't banded so there is no obvious wounds that I can see. Everything is all hard and rough and starting to shrink.

Got the first dose of anti toxin in him and some more B complex. He has been trying to eat hay as it is sticking out the edges of his mouth, but still can't open. I have been giving him water via drench gun, but it isn't a whole lot, couple oz at most. He is only stiff in back legs and jaw and doesn't seem to have gotten any worse in the last 24 hours.
