There was a reason...

...these goats were so cheap.
We have only been searching seriously for a couple of months. We ended up with Covid in January and then my mother-in-law died. (If you don't know it was one of those that was a relief; she had been in a bad way for too long.)
Still, we kept trying but good herds went fast.
But the weeds are high and I was Jones'n. So we brought some home. Bit of a rescue operation.
They are supposed to be ND's but I wonder. They were not neglected nor abused; just scruffy. Nice pasture but no barn. Just a small shed.
We got a doe with doeling and buckling and a pregnant doe. Anxious to get them on some good alfalfa, grain and some minerals. I think they will flesh out nicely.

They look like they are enjoying all that lush green grass!
The older ones look like ND mixed with Toggenberg to me.

Aww! Congratulations! I bet it feels great to back with a herd! They are cute and look like they will be even more beautiful once they get some good minerals like you said!

I'm so happy to hear that you have goats again! How are they temperament wise? They look like they have no idea where they are.😄

They are a bit skittish but have already calmed down a lot. I got the pregnant one to nibble some treats from my hand.
The smaller doe is quickly establishing herself as queen.
In typical goat form; they have that lush pen but keep staring longingly at the pasture.🤣

We are working on names. Our grandchildren have always named the goats but they are pretty grown up now so don't know if they will be interested.

I don't know that much about how Nigies look. I think they are a good starter herd for us to learn if that is the breed we want before investing in an improved herd. We will give them a good (spoiled) life.

We have a winner🐸
Raisins and graham crackers.
When I tried to feed doe number 2 sweet feed this morning she elaborately refused. I had a feeling doe number 1 told her not to take tasty bribes from those creatures who wish us harm and want to steal our babies.
I rounded them all into the kidding pen but #1 bolted out. I went on in and just sat for awhile. Number 2 still turned her head when offered both raisins and crackers. Number 2 (realizing she had separated herself from her baby) hung out by the fence. When I held out a cracker she rammed the gate (and my finger🤕). She could not, however, resist a raisin and then another and another. Then suddenly graham crackers were yummy.
I let her into the pen and she laid down next to her baby. Pregnant Mama (gotta get some names) begrudgingly ate a raisin and then crackers.
By the time I was done I had held both babies in my lap, my pockets were empty and the does had brought up their cud and were quietly chewing.
Great progress but I bet I have to go through the whole process again tomorrow. 🐐👀
