Does anyone else have conversations like this with their goats?
Me: Why arent you guys eating your hay?
    Goats: Don't like it.
Me: Don't like what?? There are 4 different types of hay out here!!
Goats: We won't eat any of them. We know if we hold out, you will go buy some new type and we will have more choices because you are a worrier.
Me: Damn it! Spoiled brats! .......I'll be at the grain store. :(

Do they get any forage? Have you tried alfalfa?

I was giving them alfalfa am and on along with their hay but cut back because I'm trying to dry up a doe in milk. They have forage in summer but are so spoiled they eat a new hay for a day or two and then decide they don't like it and guilt me into buying something else.

I try to tell myself that, but I worry they will get too hungry or thin so I go looking for something yummier. They have me trained!

I do lecture mine. And then I get angry with them when they don't understand me. ;-)

Yep, sometimes I get so frustrated with them. I take hay out there, they eat a few bites and off they go to graze. But, they do come back later. ;)

    My conversation:

Why are you inside when the hay is outside?

"don't wanna go outside, there's snow on the ground."

Too bad, the suns out. Get out and eat.

"No, want to eat inside and want different hay"

Either go outside and eat or go without. You can starve to death for all I care, I'm done with your petty theatrics. If you don't want the hay, I will give it to the horses. This is all we have. Good bye.

So I leave the barn and they start to scream. I yell at them to starve. A few minutes later I see them outside at the feeder.

So I could only get the first cut this weekend, no 2nd cut candy. They all kept staring at me waiting for something new. I told them this was it, they had to eat it. I had to go in the house because I couldn't look at them. Ugh, I need to be strong. :(

    Mine goes something like this:

Me: Stop pushing, you'll get fed quicker if I can get to the dish.
Goats: But it is so much fun to see you stagger all over the yard.
Me: That wasn't funny, knock it off. Get your head out of the dish I can't put the feed in it if your head's in the way.
    DUMP
Goats: Get out of my way. Baby you have feed on your head. Move over.

And so it goes. Every day.
Don't even ask about when they get treats.

I think I have had all these and then this one every morning...

Me: Do not jump into the feeder
Them: But we like to stand in here
Me: But I can't put the hay down until you move!
Them: But it's fun to see you try to work around us
Me: But then you are wasting the hay that falls on you and the ground
Them: Yeah, but you'll feel sorry for us and just give us more

If mine don't like it they pull it out & drop it on the ground if they can't fine any "edible" pieces in that mouthful. & so on. Then they poop & pee all over it so I can't put it back in their feeder.

Any time there is food around
Me: Hope that was for Mufasa not you
Mufasa that was for Jessie not you
Jessie that was for Lilly not you
GET OUT OF THE TREAT BAG ALL OF YOU
Them: But we love to watch you stumble around trying to get the treats from Licorice and not fall at the same time.

If Elmer gets his head in the feed bucket, the game's over. He'll take it to the ground and won't let go of it before it's empty. So I now carry the bucket high and swing it over his head to keep his attention away from the feed bowl while I swoop in for the dump. It seems to work for now at least.

I gave up on talking to him. He just stands and stares at the bucket.

Dilly, on the other hand, thinks it's fun to walk zig-zag in front of me as I carry the feed out to the pen. Maybe she's hoping I'll trip on her and drop the bucket.

My girls abandon the food to stand at the gate and scream at me.... “come back! Surely you have more. Take us to the house!” They go finish once I step in the garage. Silly girls.
