Goats weight and overall health concern for herd

I originally posted in a different thread about first freshners. But another member point out the health of the goats and there coats.

Goats are fully vaccinated. And have clean fecal exams.

It is may currently so spring and warm weather just started grass just started growing.

Goats are in grass and bush. Gets moved pasture rotation wit electric fence every 3 days.

Also have free access to mineral. 24/7 and get barley at night

Some are half boer half nubian and others are half boer half kiko lol sorry.

And they are free choice mineral I can't remember what the bag is called I check it in the morning. It's not a salt lick.

And it wasn't you. It was a lady above a few comments up. So I'd figure I'd double check. Sorry new goat owner and I want what's best for these guys.

They don't look bad. Could probably use a little more weight. Might need some copper and selenium.

What is selenium? And is it vet prescribed?
When were the fecals done?
They can get parasites like barber pole from eating short grass so that might be part of it

They may just need some extra feed (like alfalfa and beet pulp pellets) in addition to the grass/brush

I would feel them all to check their body conditions (they should have a layer of flesh on their bones, shouldn't be able to feel sharp bones, you can google goat body condition for more info) and give any skinny ones some extra feed daily

Just if you start feed make sure to introduce it slowly, we usually start with 2 cups alfalfa 1 cup beet pulp but you can start with like 1/4 cup beet pulp and increase from there

Just remembered you said they are pregnant so keep in mind I'm not experienced with feeding pregnant goats

A month and half go fecal we're done and they were treated for baby pole worms.

There on 3 day rotation for pasture with electric fence. Every 3 days they get moved into a new area. With longer grass.

Not all are pregnant. 2 for sure are. A few are open and a few I'm not sure as they first freshners.

With the beat pulp and alfha is it recommend to soak it like you do for horses so they don't get choke?

Did you do a 2nd fecal 10 days after treatment to ensure it was effective?
Not all wormers work for BP.

Selenium vitamin e gel can be purchased otc at your farm store. Or on Amazon. There are forms of Se that are prescription only.
If pregnant, it’s a good idea to give a dose to help them out and make sure babies aren’t weak when born.

my goats free range. They don’t get additional feed this time of year, other than a little grain mix in the evening - mostly just to keep them coming in at night so we can work them or sort them and just check them over. If your dori g just started, they maybe just haven’t been able to gain yet.
If Bred, additional feed would be a good idea. I know you just got some and aren’t sure on being bred or not… I dont soak my alfalfa pellets and they chew them fine. Beet is recommended to soak.

Yes second fecal came out clean. They were dewormed with ivermectin

I give grain every evening I definitely have beat pulp and alfha pellets on hand as I supplement my horse out the door lol never knew I could give it to goats.

I don’t soak beet pulp. Just mix it in with the grain, alfalfa pellets don’t need soaked either.
Never had choke, just stir it in.

To me, I would copper bolus. And also put a zinc tablet in the bolus gun. Then take a picture, wait a week and see if theirs a difference.
Their body size looks good for a yearling. And only the coats look a little rough.

A bolus gun enables you to give the goats a pill easily.
Human zinc pills can be given to goats.
Amazon sells copper bolus for goats. Dosed at 1 gram per 22lbs. Some people need to bolus their goats with copper every 3-4 months or some twice yearly. This is in addition to free choice loose minerals.
