I believe a tornado went near where I live. It hasn’t been reported/verified by anyone else living around here, but I am bordered by two conservations. Quite a few people in the wider area are wondering if they heard a tornado. Depending on what went overhead and which direction it took, it might not have reached more people. I don’t know if it was just forming and touched down elsewhere…There are a couple more tornado reportings being made that may have been what went over me. Two areas are about 20 minute drives from me. Everything seems undamaged (except for a hay feeder and the coops moved a bit). There’s minimal damage in the forest, but there are some suspicious areas. I wish it hit during day light. I’ve never heard anything like it! Whatever it was was so powerful and loud. I’m so happy everything is fine! Whatever it was just teased us a little.
It was windy outside like it always is. There was a strange hum like thunder that never ended in the distance. I don’t believe there was much rain at all. My property was between two parts of the storm with tornado warnings. At first, we thought it would miss us. The wind started getting more intense. The air had a weird sound to it. It started to sound like a roaring. My dad said the only time he’d heard a roaring like this storm was when a tornado hit near his home when he was a child. At one point, we struggled to open the door and gave up. I grabbed the two goats in the garage (Pumpkin 11 weeks old and his girlfriend, Blizzard) and bugged out to the basement. It sounded like I was standing right next to a train going by. The house was creaking and shaking. The wind outside was coming from everywhere like the house was in a blender. It sounded exactly like videos of people in their houses with tornados hitting I’ve seen online. We didn’t lose any windows or anything, so I wonder if it was nearby or didn’t touch down. Then the roaring became fainter, and there was complete silence. My ears popped a little bit, too. With what I heard, I thought there would be serious damage to the property. It was surreal. It’s like we were in a tornado in another dimension. I’m not sure what happened.
There’s one spot in the woods on the other side of the creek near the house with a pattern of trees broken at the tops (I saw about 10 broken trees right in that area). I believe the damage is new. There are a lot of broken tree limbs with leaves on the ground in all the brush. It isn’t a huge amount of damage, but seems weird it’s in one spot in a pattern. There are more trees broken at the tops following the valley with the creek behind the house. I noticed more broken trees but didn’t want to walk around the woods and look. There are a lot of diseased trees, so that may be part of the tree damage. There weren’t any trees ripped up by the roots that I could see based on where I went looking. Glad it sounded worse than it was!! Main thing is no goat shelters were tipped over, and all is well!
