My 3 nubian kids are about 5 weeks old now. The buck and one doe are eating and growing well, nibbling hay and grain.

The one doe is still struggling. She is an odd case. We basically had to force her to take the bottle for two weeks. Every ounce was a struggle. Then she seemed to figure it out, and ate enthusiastically for about a week.

For the last two weeks, she is a little less interested and a little less proficient. She takes to the bottle ok, but can't seem to get it right. She will suck for a few seconds, and then cough a little, like she's getting it down the wrong tube, and then go back at it, and so on until the milk is gone (or almost gone, she doesn't always want it all). She nibbles hay but isn't really interested in grain.

She seems to be growing, so we aren't too concerned.

    Anyone have problems like this?

it could be that baby is getting too much from the hole size in the nipple
Forcing more... than can be swallowed.....

    how is the temp?

What kind of bottle are you using? I have to agree, the opening might be to big or are you holding the bottle like they would be nursing from mom? They have to have their nose in the air or it will go down the wrong tube.

her head is in the air, but it may be that the nipple hole is too big.
