I'm still on the hunt for a really nice moonspotted nigerian buckling. I had found one locally this past spring & he ended up with messed up teats so it's back to the drawing board. Hubby says we can road trip for a kid--so he doesn't stick up the vehicle too badly in the spring. So if anyone has anything due & is in or could meet in Minnesota, North or South Dakota, eastern Montana, eastern Wyoming, Nebraska, eastern Kansas, middle or northern Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin or the Upper Penninsula of Michigan let me know. It has to come from some nice udder genetics & pretty decent body type with no disqualifications.
Its probably too far away, but Old Mountain Farm is expecting many moon spotted goats. I like their lineage, they are going for correctness and dairy production. Plus they are offering deals if you take 2.
Yes, too far We drove out to Syracuse, New York a few years ago for the Jersey Wooly Rabbit National competition & that was way too long of a boring drive. Should also mention, I may be willing to do a trade for a moonspotted buckling.
Too bad you are so far away! I have a really nice moon-spotted doe with blue eyes out of Pholia Farm and Rosasharn lines with some great milking genetics behind her. She is bred to a really nice buck with some amazing lines who also has the potential to pass blue eyes. If she has any doelings I'd like to keep one...but I really don't need any more bucklings and her line produces heavy moonspotting with pretty good frequency (at least her dam and grand-dam on her mom's side.) But I am in Oregon, so alas.
Oregon=way to far Hubby just said he'd be fine with driving around a maximum of 1000 miles from home (our zip code is 55771 Orr, MN 1 hour south of the Canadian border) but I'm really hoping to keep it less than 700 miles. I'm very picky about my stock & of course it has to come out of a CAE/disease free herd. I better start going through the nigerian websites throughout the U.S. since everyone seems to be on either the east coast/west coast or way down south that I can think of.
Well, I spent part of my day searching websites throughout the U.S. for breeders with moonspotted nigerians but I'm really not finding much that is appealing to me in the states that I was really hoping for. I may expand my search to a heavily moonspotted doe if I can't find a buck.
When you consider the cost of driving 1000 miles and staying over night it might be less money to have exactly what you want shipped... there is a pet airline that might be a good way to go... less stress.
We live 4 hours away from the main airport..we like to travel the country and were hoping to find some new sights to see & have a short vacation. Shipping may be the way to go though..any more websites you all know of that have some nice moonspotted nigerians?
I know of some, but most would require shipping. Prairiewood has some that I like. They did end purchasing Hot Stuff from OMF. Laurel Haven has some. Double Durango has quite a few. Ummm...hmmmm...Rosasharn has some, NC Promisedland has some too. Those are all I can think of at the moment. Rosasharn would be a top choice for me, but i'm not sure what your spending price would be or what lines you like. Rosasharn is pretty expensive, but their goats are top notch.
Ashley at Phoenix Rising has some and I know Dills has some as does Old Mountain Farm. Im sure there are others but those three I like the herds. These people are located in Northern Michigan... http://www.rhythmicacres.com/index.html They have a moonspotted buck from OMF so I'm thinking they'll prolly have some moonspotted kids! Good luck! I'll keep my eyes open for you!
I have a few moonspotted does that are due to freshen in the spring. You can see them on my website: http://www.jchmountainfarm.com under the breeding page. I can send you extended pedigrees if you want, and you can also see some pedigree info on the individual adult pages. We are a really small farm, but have a CAE/CL/Johne's free herd. We are in No. Central WV....
ground shipping.... I usually get kids shipped via ground cross country for about $200-$250 per kid. Fill rates.... so you'll likely have to meet them at the closest highway, this way you don't have to compromise herd quality because of location.
Just wanted to announce that I was able to find not only 1 but 2 moonspotted bucklings to add to my herd recently and wanted to show them off They both have really nice bloodlines behind them & I adore them both! I can't wait for kidding season in 2012 to see what patterns I'll end up with! Plus I have access to breed 2 of my does to moonspotted *B Old Mountain Farm Black Tulip *S!!! I have a feeling I'm going to have a hard time parting with any of my 2012 kids!!
If you are willing to drive 1,000 miles you should just look everywhere...find the best buck you can and consider transport. You're going to spend the same in gas as you would to transport a buckling from anywhere in the U.S. just a thought....unless you are really looking forward to taking the trip.
I got two already hence the pics above..1 from Minnesota, 1 from Wisconsin & I can use my friends moonspotted buckling that she just got from Old Mountain Farm
