I have looked at different designs and posts about using a rain barrel and light inside. Some people use a 100-watt incandescent light bulb, others use the standard heat warming lamp with the cage, and others use the premier heat lamp safe for barns Prima Heat Lamp - Premier1Supplies.

What have you guys done and what works for you? A lot of the posts on this forum are a few years old. Also, I read it's a good idea to use a pvc pipe to hide the wires from the top of the barrel.

Oh, is the 100 watt light warm enough in 10 degree weather?

I use the premier heat lamps, cut a hole in the barrel on the top, and a couple holes for venting- a square hole about 4-6" up from the bottom. (so you can put bedding in the barrel). I suspend the light by a chain and put a strap or rope, etc. to anchor the barrel in a corner so no one can tip it over. After a few days, they don't need the lamp, but the kids love the barrel until they are too big! It's a get away from other goats hiding place.
