@JessicaLL2020 Here's a thread for you. I got this in a PM... Hello. I’m new on Goat Spot! I have a doeling that 3 days old. She was the first one of four babies. She was breeched. I believe she could have lost oxygen before she was born. She did not get up and nurse after she was born. After alittle while I brought her in on a heating pad and warmed her up. I’m trying to bottle feed her. I milked mom for colostrum and not on replacement with some molasses in it. She will not suck. I have tube fed her some. She is getting up and walking some but will just stand still for awhile. Any suggestions to get her going will be great! I had a vet suggest she could not be all there in the head. Is that possible?
I advised her to give Vit B complex and Use mom's milk or whole cows milk. I have to jump offline...we are crazy at work today...Good Luck
What is her temperature? A pea sized amount of probios on your finger swiped on the roof of her mouth, may help. A pinch of baking soda in her first bottle of the day Whole cows milk or moms milk is better that replacer, but with the pandemic, whole milk may be a challenge to get. B complex shot. 4 cc / 100 lbs SQ If i think of anything else, i will post! Good luck!
Possible but waking up the brain with vitamin B helps. Although I'm not sure if it helps past the first 24 hours.
I agree with the vit B complex. Make sure the kid gets milk. You do not want to over feed, just have something in the tummy. Not too tight or too empty. Temp is fine. A small 1/4 to 1/2 cc Bo-se shot depending on kid size. Or selenium gel. Nutra drench will help stimulate appetite and give energy. Keep the kid warm. Sorry...long day! I really hope the baby picks up. Keep going for a few days with he vitamin b complex ...you got great advice from the group.
Thank you all! She’s had great improvement within 24hours! She’s now sucking 3oz of cows milk from bottle every 4 hours! Started jumping and being playful this morning!
I found out by accident that a kid will not suck on a bottle that isn't warm enough. It has to be warmer than a baby bottle. Warm bottles to goat normal temp around 102.
That's good news! I had two little ones that were a bit slow to start, and "all of the above" recommendations got them rolling quickly: B complex gel, Se & E gel, bottles with momma milk/colostrum, and access to minerals. I gave the B compex 3 days in a row, Se & E only once. They are now at 10 days and wholy schmoly, they are bouncy happy little girls!
Ok I do have one more question! She’s now 4 days old and she weighs around 3.5 lbs. she’s eating around 4 oz every 4 hours. I’ve got her on cows milk. She’s starting to get some really loose stool. Kinda diarrhea. What can I give her to help that?
Do you have any Probios? That might help get her gut bacteria in order. Though the milk poop is kinda soft and pasty, quite yellow, until the system matures enough to make proper berries. I'm sure some other folks will have some more ideas as it could be a number of things.
