Are you talking about bottle babies or dam raised?

I wean my dam raised kids around 8 weeks old, but only if they are strong and healthy. So far, I have just left them with their dam until they get picked up by their new owners. When ever I have done this though, the have always had a buddy to go with and that's seem to make a difference then opposed to them going home alone.

My kidds are weaned at 3 months. I breed my does in groups. So I have about 10 kids to wean as a group. I put all the kids in a pen where they cant see moms. Does go to the back pasture, and for about 3 days, its a noisey place. Moms recoup quickly. Kids get closer to me and I usually keep or sell at this time.

With bottle babies, just slowly reduce the number of bottles they get per day once they are old enough for weaning. With dam raised, you can separate the kids and dams (after the kids are a couple weeks old) and bring them in to nurse a few times a day, then just decrease how many times you put them together until they are old enough and completely weaned.

I agree.

3 months is a good time to wean.

My dam raised keepers stay with mom until I dry mom up prior to kidding. Dam raised kids that are sold are weaned at 3 months. Bottle raised keeper kids are on the bottle until the does are dry. Bottle raised sale kids are weaned when ever the new owner wants them to be,
