Wethers Being More Aggressive Lately

803 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Orcakat
Hi all,

The weather has finally been cooling off and the days are getting much shorter here in Oregon. I've noticed that my 3 boys (wether ND, 8 months old) have been rude and have been fighting/play fighting a lot more recently. Is it normal for boys to get a little more aggressive in the Fall, even if they are neutered and are not going into rut?

They aren't unmanageable by any means and are still friendly and easy to work with. I have just noticed a slight change in their temperament over the last couple of weeks and they have definitely gotten more pushy with each other. They still respect me and my boundaries and I love my boys! :)

Yes, it's normal. Even wethers go through a period of puberty. It's just not as intense as with bucklings. Since there is no feedback hormones from the testes the pituitary gland will quit sending signals at around 2 to 3 years old.

Where in Oregon are you? I'm near Albany.

Gizmo is also a wether and 1 year old. He still mounts Desriny and "rounds her up" as if he was in rut. It is normal.

At that age, they are like teenage year old boys, testing their strength. The cooler weather seems to make all my critters a little more frisky than usual. Come to think about it, me also. The crispness in the air is a welcomed relief from the oppressive heat of summer.

Does get stupid in the cooler weather, too. Lots of bashing and shuffling of herd order going into breeding season. (I breed now till Dec)

Yep my does are being stupid too. We had a tiny storm come in last night and there they were in the wind all prego running and butting and bucking around. Bunch of dorks

My 7 month old ND does have been doing the same thing. They seem to have a little more spunk and a little less sense now that the weather is cooler.

Makes sense, little stinkers. Definitely think the cooler weather has them more active than usual.

I'm in Tualatin!
