What did you all do today ?!?!

Ok so we had a last minute change of plans. We had paid to go riding at the Kentucky horse park for the benefit trail ride they do twice a year. Unfortunately this week before leaving one of my friends horse developed an abscess and had to have his shoes pulled. So we changed to a local ride on another one of her horses. The three of us had a blast and her other two horses are proving they are good trail horses too! Now that we know they can handle it we have our trail riding trio for future rides. My old guy has a heart murmur so I borrowed my friends old appy and he was amazing! Love a good steady eddy type of horse for trails now that I am a bit older. Here are some pics from our ride today. Sorry some are a but blurry just used our phones and not an actual camera. Enjoy and then share what you all have been up to lately!

I am always strict about heals down lol evidence documented for the barn kids lol

I love my endurance saddle! Simple wintec with a changeable system and wool flocked. I can't stand the cair system ones and I don't even know if they make this one any more but love it! It's the only saddle I like to ride in now.

Oh no DDFN I am so sorry about the storm damage, but so glad it wasn't worse! We didn't get any of the bad stuff the other day, just rain and wind. I feel terrible for everyone dealing with severe weather.

It's been another busy day, but it's pretty out. Yesterday early afternoon we noticed one of our bucklings breathing heavy. Acting mostly normal, but definitely not breathing right. Peeing good, so took temp and it was a little high. Started him on Banamine and PenG. By 10pm he was breathing much worse, looked distressed despite nursing and moving around, but looked uncomfortable. Temp good, so I decided PenG wasn't helping, and gave him a dose of Noromycin LA300. 5am he was not breathing as fast, but still breathing heavy. But late morning he seemed to be nearly normal and is acting normal again. Never had this happen before so it was another 'weird' thing to add to our collection of goat drama.

After treating him last night I gave one of our new twins an enema, he had dried yellow poop so was constipated. Something I always observe in kids if they are born a little early and/or have a mom with really good, thick colostrum. So then both boys ended up with really runny poop. Gave them spectogard this morning and they seem fine. Then aftercare for mom who is still sore and swollen.

I tried to get my camera out again today, and it was so hard to get pictures. I attempted to get down on their level and my bratty bucket boy, Jack was back at it, attacking me, climbing on my back and at one point all 4 of my bucket brats were attacking me. Because we feed on a bottle baby schedule vs leaving milk out 24/7, they are super annoying lol.

Thanks. Could've been worse.

Hope your little one is doing better.

Praying for Nashville area schools and families impacted in today's shooting so sad.
Just got laundry done and beyond exhausted. Downside of carpooling is not being able to leave until the other is finished. . . Long day and longer night

I haven't been online all day and saw my uncle had posted something about praying for shooting victims, so very sorry to hear there was another school shooting, makes me so scared to send my daughter to school, let alone you just don't know when or where these lunatics will strike :(

The buckling is much better thankfully! I was observing him a little while ago and he looked like he was breathing more normally. He's active, nursing, eating, etc. Didn't feel raspy when I had my hand on him to hold him for his shot.
This roller coaster weather is so hard on them.
I had to give both new babies born Sat night an enema. Their mom has a really good udder, appears to have really rich milk as well.

It was a very busy afternoon and evening. We came in from the barn at 7pm, my daughter and I got all the babies weighed and pulled the buck out to get him weighed. He is starting to really put on some weight now. He just turned 16mo and weighs 247lbs. He gained something like 24lbs in the last month.
I cooked chicke breast cutlets on the grill and made chicken wraps for dinner, then I had roasted some chicken breast cuts in my air fryer oven and cut it up and made chicken salad for lunch and something easy to grab if we get hungry. Showered, worked on washing some more laundry, did my barn chores for the night and... here I am. I turned the heat lamp on for the new babies, they seemed to appreciate it, so I'll be up all through the night checking it. The doe due on Wed is more restless than usual tonight, so I'm wondering if she may try to kid tomorrow. Ideally I'd rather her kid on Wed as it will be warmer.

Got busy Sunday. We did have a fun brunch with friends. I had a very good croissant sandwich. Then the family came over and we barbecued a bunch of meat. My daughter and I had not consulted enough and we each made a mac salad so we had plenty of that! She did her baked beans which are always yummy.
Yesterday we got the answers to our tax questions so I can finally get busy on that. It will be much less complicated than I expected.🥵
Now we have to get back to work on the porch. We only got through half of the shelves.
It is raining... again... but luckily it doesn't look like we will get anymore flooding so we can just enjoy the much needed water.

Well I’ve been busy with the last few days but it doesn’t sound like much to hen typed out and I hate to admit just how out of shape I have become lol so I’ll just say we have been gathering and hauling cows. We were supposed to do the fire training thing today, the whole this is how to stay safe when rescuing your livestock but if you die we are not liable for it, but they cancelled and didn’t bother telling us so I did get a 2 hour break lol

With the weather you’ve been having in CA, you’re going to have a rough fire season. I’m sure Keith’s already thinking about it but I worry about y’all in California. (Pam too) The underbrush on the hillsides will grow crazy and dry out once summer gets into full swing. Just praying it won’t be as bad as the Camp fire years ago….please make sure y’all have at minimum a 100 foot defensible perimeter around your homes and barns to be safe. Thank god you’ve got goats to help keep it cut down!

Youll get back in shape…this lifestyle doesn’t allow you not to be 😉 Just take it slow and don’t push too hard!

Yesterday was such a busy day and didn't get much sleep last night. Have a heat lamp on in a barrel, and never sleep well when I am using lamps during kidding season. Plus the little stinkers don't seem to come out through the night unless I go wake them up, they are so comfy and warm in there...lol
Have a doe due today but doesn't look ready yet - still has tail ligs.

Our young buck that appears to have pneumonia was hunched and not feeling well again last night after 3 doses of Noromycin 300. Temp was 103.3F so I gave him banamine and probiotic power. Once the banamine hit him he was at the hay feeder eating for at least 20-30 minutes. Seems okay this morning, laying under the hay feeder chewing his cud - it was cold this morning low 30s. He sounds raspy, but doesn't have the heavy, distressed breathing. I was going to post about him in health section, but I'll reach out to the vet instead as they told me the other day if he relapsed/didn't improve they would give me Nuflor or Draxxin. So I will see how he is after it warms up a bit this morning and see about getting him different meds.
Right now... I desperately need a nap so I can function. It's already been a beautiful morning despite being cold and frosty outside.
I was hoping to get a bunch of stuff done today, but I'll be lucky if I get laundry folded outside of goat chores...lol

Yeah it’s going to be a bad one. I’m already planning on keith being gone most of the summer :/ but I get a 40 acre clearance lol once things start drying out we bring the cows into the 40 around the houses and will graze it down to nothing. I don’t have a fancy yard so I keep the gate open and they can come right up to the house and eat too. The goats for the most part keep the yard and their area cleaned up which I would say is about 5 acres on the back side of the house. But this has been something dad has been admit about doing since I was a kid.

Awww geeez, not ready for Fire season at all. We are.just getting green!
Went out to feed, to see a doeling jumping up.on the awning, to get.on the buck house!😲 I screamed and ran onto the buck pen to scare her back to her paddock The bucks just froze and stared at me. Im sure a green pillsbury dough thing running at you, is shocking!🤣😂🤣😂I had my heavy winter bibs, and huge black coat on, about 30lbs worth..
Anyway scared her back into her area, fed them, and pulled the awning about 10 feet away from the shed. So now they can climb all over it,and not get anywhere! Got everybody fed, and came inside. So my day has started ,and I need a break. Going to sit ,eat breakfast, and drink coffee. Then go trim feet!.😟

I’ve been stumbling my way through a brain fog for about a week. Do you all ever have those times, where your mind is mush? For instance, this morning, I got my doe on the stand, washed her udder, stripped some milk out, then started happily milking away. When I’m almost done, she backs up out of my comfortable reach and I’m befuddled. And that’s when I realized I never closed the head gate. She was just standing there because she’s a good girl (and there was grain). This is just one of many dumb things I’ve done over the past few days.

Well, I hope that's not too bad cuz I have done it too:giggle:. Especially with Tawny who is very well behaved. I'll get near the end and realize she is wandering off.

I spent today staying in out of the rain. I let the guys handle chores. Tonight when we went out to put everybody to bed I expected them to be inside. The rain had stopped but there was standing water all over. When I got into the barn not a soul was to be seen. They were out in the yard standing around in the mud. Go figger, huh?
Poor little Bolt's front legs were wet and muddy cuz Mama had put him in a puddle!😵
It is really warm enough for the little Littles but I turned on their lamp just because they were wet and cold.

I’m hoping most people who milk every day, twice a day, have done it at least once and it’s not just us. Lol. I’ve made so many little errors lately. I think I’m work drunk, you know, at that point of being so tired and overworked that we think we’re with it and functioning ok but the results say otherwise. Or maybe that is just me.

Silly goats, standing in water. Though mine will do that too when it’s rained all day. I think they just get tired of the barn. They’ll even head out in a light rain if they’ve been barn bound by heavy rain all day. I’d have put the heat lamp on for the kids too, since they were so wet. Our ground is almost dry from our last heavy rain (2.5” in a day) and so of course, we’re getting another round of it tomorrow. Hopefully the storm with it won’t be as bad this time.

Obviously my goats prefer dry ground, but it was kind of funny after a heavy, long duration of rain that had it muddy everywhere, they were out in the mud eating the cattails. They must have figured since they couldn’t get out of the mud they might as well eat the good stuff!

that was year before last or something. This year I don’t even think cattails are starting to grow yet. I woke up to another blanket of white today sigh
I’ve forgotten several little things… like leaving a faucet on to fill a big water trough (in summer) My dad will wonder why no water pressure and that’ll remind me oh yeah, I’d better turn that off! He says I’m too young to be so forgetful 😂🤷🏼‍♀️😅

Yes, the silver lining. Lol
I’m still doling out orange peels for the vitamin c tho! If not worms, it’ll be pneumonia to worry about. Sheesh!

We had a nice day. Things are drying out again. The goats and chickens enjoyed the sunshine.
Got the taxes almost in order.
We, hopefully, have found a good hay connection. Getting some tomorrow.
Looking forward to heading up to the hills for a couple of days.

Yesterday was a beautiful day here, so sunny and in the low 60s. Today, very rainy morning, dreary and will be in the 60s again. It was near 50 last night for the low, which was nice!
Our last doe due until May was due on Wed. Couldn't find ligs this morning, doesn't appear to be in labor though, so I may try to get away for about 2 hours to run errands. I've been sitting here at my desk with my phone on watching her on the camera trying to debate what I should do. I need to go to the bank, get gas and really want to go get feed (45 min drive one way). They are talking about strong winds tomorrow and I have to take my truck since my car hasn't had the tire fixed and has a donut on it. I was going to see if the tire warranty would cover it being fixed and take it today when I go to get feed, but then the doe crashed those plans by not kidding yet lol I need to call and see if the tire still qualifies for it's warranty... I must have hit something on the road last week that put a cut in the tire :(

I realized that our spring race meet (horseracing) starts a week from today! I am so unprepared this meet! I need to get my laptop updated & ready, and get camera ready. I never sent a camera and lens off to be fixed, so I'll just have to make due. I plan on getting them fixed as soon as the meet is over. Actually I may send off my short lens first and see what it's going to take to get it fixed - we are going to Gatlinburg area in June and want to have my short lens.
I just cringe sending anything to Canon to be fixed, seems everything is crazy expensive.
My lens started malfunctioning when we were in FL last August, go to take a picture and it snaps one and then gets an error code :( I paid $1200 for the lens but have had it for YEARS, had to have it fixed once in 2013, and Canon wanted $1000 to fix it - RIDICULOUS. Camera store sent it elsewhere for me and $250 later it was fixed and better than when it was new! That place no longer does repairs. I may search around for somewhere else to send it other than Canon...I really need to look into it.
My main camera will ONLY attach to MY long lens, it will not attach to any other lens. How crazy is that? Even the Canon techs at the KY derby last year couldn't figure that one out. I may rent a camera for KY Derby this year since Canon usually brings the newest equipment and I don't have those new memory cards, forget which ones, I use SD (and compactflash). They also are pushing the mirrorless cameras more and there is a big learning curve with those...not something you try to learn on big race days. It will be stressful enough with all of the construction and changes going on... It will not be a traditional KY derby...
