What are those little things that make our little hooved wonders so endearing? List anything you like about your goats... even those things that are annoying, but secretly you think are cute.

    I love:

...how they always are excited to see me, always greet me eagerly at the gate, and always attempt to slip out when I'm trying to leave

...their little goat "kisses" when I sit on top of the rock with them.

...how they always slurp their water and smack their lips happily when they've finished drinking.

...when they completely spazz out and get really playful and bouncy. You can just see how happy they are

... when they greet you with a chorus of "come feed us!" in their goaty voices, and how I can tell who is calling me by the tone/sound of the 'baaa'

...when you refill their hay racks and they stand munching the hay without wasting much... especially when you bought it for a good price

...how they can make themselves look so innocent, cute, and so curious, then you turn your back and they manage to get into a heap of trouble!

...how fuzzy they are in the winter

...how they run and hide behind my legs when something startles them

... how they manage to be so devoted to you, but at the same time find a way to defy all the rules

... and of course their... goatiness... you know, their essential selves

Okay, that's all I've got for now (without really starting to ramble anyway) so what are those things that make raising goats so rewarding?

Yeppers!!! I love how they figure out little things to do to make you pet them or scratch them.. for instance, when I stop petting Pixie she paws at me and bites my hand. Haha!! :D. My brother's Atta will start to lean her head back and slowly start scratching her back with her teeth. She does it right in front of you, very obviously. She always gets someone to scratch it for her and she practically falls asleep!! ROFL. Ohhh I just love goaties :).

i think thats one of my favorite things, the way they always find a way for you to pet them, whether it be rubbing their head on you or nibbling on your fingers. One of my yearlings, ruby likes to gently nibble my fingers it always works. Pulling on the strings of my coat or swaetshirt works well too, or pulling on belt loops of pabts.

what do I love about goats.....

The way they lay with thier heads on each other's bellies or backs to sleep.
The way kids jump on thier momma's back to go for a ride.
The way each new kid is obviously certain that THEY invented jumping and running!
The way they remember who thier friends are - reguardless of their species.
The way my buck Pierre poses for pictures at shows when he hears someone say "look over here boy".
The way it felt several years ago when a controlled burn got a bit un-controlled and the flames started heading towards the barn. I ran up through the fire (just a grass fire, nothing heroic) to get ahead of the fire and hose down the area, and when they saw me coming through the flames my frightened goats ran TOWARDS me - and the fire - because they knew I'd take care of them.........I felt very humbled, and very loved!

I love to watch them drink too- making a noise like soda through a straw- then standing there chewing on it.
I love that they come to be scratched and I love that they are so reluctant to go somewhere new until I go first.
I love that no matter what I'm doing, they have to come check it out and hang around with me.

But I wish they would poop square berries that didn't roll when I try to sweep them up.

    I love...
The FLOPPY ears on a newborn MiniNubian (or Nubian, but am partial to the Mini's :) ).
The adorable way that the babies lay their head on your shoulder.
The contented little maa's that they give when they have their tummies full of milk.
The bouncy, jumpy, cavorting of a little kid. But even more fun is when an adult gets spunky! :D
The smell of a newborn goat kid.
The caring and understanding of the goats when you are going through a hard time - I swear they know what you are feeling at least as well as a good dog!
The fun people that the goats bring into our lives
The funny, funny looks they give you when you do something they are not used to, you know, that "what on earth do you think you are doing" look.
The curled lips when they smell or taste something strong (like vinegar).
The silly way they act when the taste cayenne or other hot peppers - rubbing their faces on everything!
The goofy looks they give me when I have to get up at 12 and 3 in the morning to feed babies - "what on earth are you doing out in the middle of the night!?"

All in all I like almost everything about goats (except when they decide to torture me and all gang up by trying to knock me over as they all rush through the gate) O.K. that is funny when it happens to someone else, but is NOT funny when it happens to ME!

Hmmmm...I pretty much love everything about my goaties.

Individually, I have to say I love the way Mystic will lean into a hug like as if it's the last one ever! She's also the one who loves car rides...so every once in a while I gotta make every other driver's day interesting by taking a drive with the goatie on my front seat!

Mira...hmmm...she's a brat??? Well she is, but I love her anyway...Lol! She can be sweet when she wants to be.

Buckaroo...he's just a little 'moosh' of a goat...although he's a bit stinky for hugs at the moment

Oh yes, I forgot! I LOVE it when all of a sudden, for no reason, someone just gets their spunk on, and goes flipping and running. It is especially fun when the really calm ones (such as my three legged Olivia) start!

Wow, so many good things to say about goats :stars:

I too love how they are so different and all have their own way of getting you to do things for them.

Eliya, you're making me jealous! I'd love to have bouncy kids! But my fat and sassy boys will do

Reading this it makes me want to go fighting my way through the snow in the pitch dark right now to visit the boys... but not enough to actually go out! It's freezing lol!

And debpnigerians, what a sweet story! Your goats must really trust you! That's another thing I love, how, once you gain their trust, they just KNOW that you're going to take care of them and will follow you anywhere.

Oh, when I was out in the barn last night, I was reminded of another thing...

I love the way that they fight for all they are worth to get at a treat! They are so funny if there is one bowl with grain or something in it and they all crowd around it and try to shove their heads in. They are so goofy! The kids around the lam-bar - a bigger bossier kid will have a nipple, get knocked off but still press his head against the nipple and the other kids mouth so they can't drink either. They sure are selfish at times! ;)

Oh yes  and they're completely shameless as well, so as they're fighting with all their might to fulfil their selfish desires they are so cocky. You can tell they are feeling good about themselves! LOL

I also love when their bellies are full after grazing for a few hours in the mid afternoon in summer, so the sun is slanting and making everything warm and comfortable. They've been munching on lush grass and they come and plop down right next to you (or on you). That's incredibly relaxing. Maybe I'm thinking about that since right now I can't even see anything green outside- too much snow!

Ah yes the fighting. I have two does who growl at the grain bowl. They are kids from last spring so still in the kid pen. They have one big bowl that they all share from. The two does are sisters. Their mom did the same thing when someone else came near her food. Even when the chickens sat under her dish to pick up everything she dropped. Its the funniest thing. I wish i could get a recording of it.
And the noise mom makes to her newborn kids. that deep throaty maaa. its the only time she ever does it, its very quiet and loving.

I love the way My Bootsie will be standoffish until I get the brush out a start using it on Angel, then she "quietly" puts herself between Angel and me so she gets the attention, she ONLY does this with Angel!
The contentment they all have on a quiet summer evening just laying around chewing their cuds.
The way they make the barn smell like Christmas time after I have given them my Christmas tree! Nothing like a piney goat belch!
When my girls know that I comfort them during labor and kidding, and the sweet way they talk to their babies afterwards.
There are so many ways that my goats help keep me sane....believe it or not cause we all know how they can drive us nuts, alot of times I get so depressed thinking that I'll never be a mom that I think of my goats when I feel that my life isn't worth living without children...they keep me sane because they NEED me and they show their love for me when I don't have any hope left.

So this is the best thread that i found to go along with my goatie experieces this evening. I juat got back in from feeding, i was bending down by the hay feeding getting a bucket or something, and juju (who is noamlly not that affectionate) starts licking me all over my face. It was so sweet, a few minutes later she was still looking through the hay feeder waiting for her turn for dinner and she made this little squeaky maa sound as if to tell me is chrome done yet i want mine.
When i got JuJu last summer she was wild as a march hare. Now she is quckly becoming one of my favorite does as she continues to get more affectionate and more sweet.
