Oo genetics excite me! Since we don’t know the colours of the does parents, we can only guess that she’s at least passing on her phenotype which is buckskin. Her genotype is unknown, so really it could be a toss up of anything! Who was she bred with last year? With the buck, he’s obviously also got a copy of buckskin, and potentially either gold or Swiss. I think it would be super cool if he passed down the Swiss markings, those are my favourite! 😉 There’s at least a 50% chance of buckskin though, and because both parents are blue eyed along with the dams parents both being blue eyed, I’m going to guess 100% on the blue eyed trait. Since their past kids were buckskin, blue eyed and polled, I’m going to say that at least one or two kids will be buckskin, blue eyed, and maybe one polled. I don’t know about the wattles, since according to another breeder in my area they’re hard to pass down. That, or she just has that kind of luck.

my final guess: two kids, one buckskin and one gold. Buckskin will look like his sire, have blue eyes and a few white spots. Horned. Golden one will be a doeling and she will also be blue eyed, but polled and have some broken white across her. Maybe some wattles!

Okay I am ready to guess!!

Josephine could be three options: Buckskin/Black, Buckskin/Sundgau, or Buckskin/Buckskin, since we don't know her parents. She is B/B or B/b for Eyes, W/W or W/w for Wattles, and P/P or P/p for Horns.

Enzo is Buckskin/Black because he is visibly not carrying Swiss, and Buckskins cannot carry Gold. He is B/b for Eyes, w/w for Wattles, and p/p for Horns.

Keeping all color combinations in mind for Josephine's pattern...
Per kid, there is a...

Pattern:
  • 75% to 100% chance of Buckskin
  • 0% to 25% chance of Black
  • 0% to 25% chance of Sundgau

Eyes:
  • 50% to 100% chance for blue eyes
Wattles:
  • 50% to 100% chance for wattles (only 50% chance if one of Josephine's parents didn't have wattles)
Horns:
  • 50% to 100% chance to be polled (only 50% chance if one of Josephine's parents wasn't polled)

I'm guessing twins. Statistically likely to both be buckskins. One with blue eyes, and one with brown. One with horns, and one polled. One with wattles, and one without. Let us know what you get!
This is very interesting!! Love to learn more about genetics, I’ll have to keep doing my research :)
