I start graining kids as soon as they show interest. If I'm bottle feeding or lambar raising, they have free choice access to it from 3 days old.
I feed alfalfa, oat hay, or a mix between the two. Free choice minerals, fresh water, pasture and some browse.

I live in an area where I can only get mixed grass/weed hay, late cut due to the weather, so it has very little protein. All of my goats (kids, does, bucks, dry, milkers, meat etc) get grain twice a day, 365 days a year. The amount and protein content varies with their class (growing, pregnant, etc) but they do get it daily. I start the kids out free choice with a creep feeder. They continue with the crepp until they are 4 months old, then they go to 2 times a day. (simply because they outgrow the feeder opening!)
