When do you all recommend discontinuing milking of a newly bred doe? I just bred one doe that I am still milking: however she is only giving about 3-4 lbs of milk daily, so I can dry her up anytime. If she is a little on the thin side should I stop milking sooner?

Personally, I would recommend drying her up about 3 months ago. She needs a period of rest between the cessation of lactating and having to support a new pregnancy to regain body condition.

When does are producing milk it takes a lot of energy and it can take weight off the goat especially if she isnt getting grains. I would suggest drying her up slowly and then putting a bit of weight on her. If does are too thin they wont take to the breeding, and if they are too big they could possibly not take.

If she is on the thin side than I would dry her up now. You don't want her underconditioned going into kidding and a new lactation.
