We have a buckling that is 7 weeks today. He is still with the herd and still feeding off his mother. However, I have noticed his play seems to border on looking like the deed. When should I seperate him and when is he viable. I know I have read conflicting time frames anywhere from 8 weeks to 4 months. He is a Nigerian dwarf and although he could never reach the grown up does he could reach the kid does(including his sibling).

8-12 weeks is when some can - but its rare before that 3 month mark.

Are you selling him as a buckling or wether?

If you see pink when he "breeds" he is capable of impregnating does. Doelings can get pregnant as early as 8 weeks of age... rare but it happens. I separate my bucklings the minute they can extend regardless of age.... if it means they need a bottle... then they will get that. My bucklings this year all started extendng between 5-7 weeks of age.... never had them do that so early before. Luckily I only have 2! LOL

If they aren't extending then they are fine to stay with the does. :)

I always seperate bucklings either at 7 or 8 weeks.
