I have twin Nubian bucklings that I have let their mother raise. They were born on July 30. I am thinking about weaning them next weekend (45 days old). Will that be old enough? They are eating grain and hay just fine but they have her sucked down terribly. She has been dewormed twice since having them and her eyelids are pink. I think she is just not able to eat enough for all the milk she is giving them. She gets her grain twice a day when I milk the others. thanks

Generally that is thought of as too young to wean. 60-90 days is the norm.

Try giving her a boost with some more rations maybe? Calf Manna, Alfalfa pellets, beet pulp?

2.5 months old at minimum age, should they be weaned. no younger with nubians.

I wean my bucklings at 8 weeks, unless they are headed for freezer camp, if they are eating hay and grain and drinking water. I've never had a problem with them not growing out well.

3 months is the norm but people do it a little earlier or a little later. But 45 days is to soon.

We wean anywhere from 40-60 depending in the individual and milk supply. Sometimes we even keep them on milk until 90 days. Just depends.

It's a little iffy at 45 days. You really hinder their growth and development unless its an emergency, I would not wean. We bought a buckling someone weaned at 40 days and the poor guy is a midget.

when I have a doe the kids are really running down I pull them from the doe and give them feedings from her a couple of times a day. They get all they can eat in the few minutes they are with her, two or three times a day depending on age. That gives them milk they still need without having the constant drain on the doe to drag her down.

What kind of grain and hay are you feeding? Can you switch her to 18% alfalfa pellets or an 18-20% lactating mix?
