Who uses a California Bander?

I've been researching California Bander's since purchasing a calf bander and finding out my two bucklings' packages were far larger than anticipated and wouldn't fit. I read somewhere that the California bander is your next option before surgical castration.
I've watched all the videos I can find on it, seems simple enough, but I was wondering if anyone has had good luck with them? There's one thread here I read where the poster cuts the dying tissue off, is it an option to allow the sack to drop on its own with this method? Also, have you had any complications with this method?
