Why is my goat so small

1041 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Moers kiko boars
Hi everyone I purchased a Nigerian dwarf goat from a breeder.
She said that she was the runt of the group and she was very small compared to everyone else.
Is this size normal?

I have attached a couple pictures she is 3 months old. The attached picture is with our newborn buck who is only 1 1/2 months old and just as big as her !!!

She is the one with the white markings

A lot of Nigerians are slow growers. Don’t be too worried. She looks to be a good size for 3 months to me.

No experience with Nigerians, but if you are worried, you could always get a fecal done to be sure she isn't dealing with coccidia. That is probably the number one cause of stunted growth for kids. You could also consider changing up her feed, maybe something with a little higher protein and higher fat depending on what you are feeding. Calf manna is a nice addition for slow growers. She is super cute.

Awww. Shes a cutie. Was she a triplet runt? If so they take a littke longer to catch up. But with the☝ above added she will do fine.
