I have a doe w a 7 month old doeling that still nurses. I'm planning to breed the mom soon. Do I need to separate from the doeling or will she wean her on her own?

The answer to that should be obvious. If she hasn't weaned her by now, she isn't going to.

Eventually you will be able to put them back together but it can take a long time. Several months is common for my kids, and they will often still try when I put them back together. I think it took 4 months for one of my doelings before I could put her back with her mom, as long as she had been nursing on her mom! But now they live together fine.

Some does do wean their own kids (none of mine ever have, lol, but I have heard this from other people), but usually that is sooner than 7 months, at this point to get her weaned you will need to get them apart.

I disagree.

I had a doeling still nursing at 7 months and mom kicked her off and weaned once pregnant. I would try it out and see what mom does. And be ready to separate if needed.

I agree with warpony and stacy...each case is different...there is not set rule..If mom doesnt ween her doe when bred then pull them...help mom out and as warpony said it can take several months....if pulling her kid is not an option, you could tape her teat or add a goat bra to prevent her from nursing mom...be sure to keep moms udder comfy as you dry her off...
