We are brand new to goats. Just adopted three NDG’s, we get them mid November at around 9 weeks old. I’ve read conflicting things on worming and vaccines. We are in Ontario Canada, so I’m not sure if that means the products we would use are different from the US. Anyway, is worming twice a year a must? And do they need vaccines of any kind? I’d like to be prepared when we bring them home so I’m not scrambling!

Only worm if needed, never preventively.

Know the symptoms of a worm issue, and if you see them, get a fecal test.

A fecal tells you which dewormer to use. Each worm requires a different one.

The only vaccine I recommend is CDT, which should be given once, then a booster 30 days later, then annually thereafter.

Because your kiddos are young, coccidia is something you should consider. It would be good to get a fecal on them.

I also vaccinate for pneumonia - it has made a big difference for me..... something to consider. DO get a fecal - I get one about 4x per year to keep on top of things, and also learn about FAMACHA to check lower eyelid color. Get your "goat kit" together - things you may need in case of illness, etc. I believe there are multiple thread on here to help you out...... the list is long. Establish a good working relationship with a vet. Many things that are needed on hand are prescription only - you don't want to be without much needed med during a weekend/holiday/midnight, etc.

I read that same advice in a book and got the vet out a few days after I got my goats. He did a health check and I had a List of questions for him. You don't want the first time to be in an emergency.
