So I thought you guys might like to hear how my road trip went. Sorry, no pics, but I will get pics of the goaties we got tomorrow or the next day

Started at 4am - get out of bed and dressed and organised.
Head off from home at 5am
Get to work property at 5.30am - load show cats into the car, off we go in two seperate cars (my boss in front with the cats, me behind in my ute)
Get to Wagga at 6.00am - fuel up, pick up friend and her show cats. By this time the little subaru is full to bottom to top with cat cages lol
Around 9.30am Mum sent me a picture message but I couldnt tell what it was - so I called her ... one of my Damara ewes lambed FINALLY! She had the most gorgeous little ram lamb, he's a light brown skewbald. I'll take pics tomorrow. Nice thing is, he's already sold!
Get to Cudal for the Boer Goat Sale at around 11am. Instead of doing an auction, the way they work it is they have all the goats penned, and your sale catalogue has all the info plus a price, basically it is first in best dressed. They started at 10am, we were hoping to get there earlier but a few things delayed us *cough cough I got lost cough cough* So about a quarter of the does were already sold when we got there, and guess what, all the ones that caught our eye had blue spray on them (symbolising that they were sold).
Anyway, my boss who is also my mentor and good friend, picks out her top pick, I pick out mine (for her - I had no intention of buying, lol I havent the money. But I quite often pick goats for her to buy to put into her herd). Well we got them into the centre pen to compare them and see them walk etc. Have to give myself a pat on the back here - my pick ended up the best out of a bunch of them we tried out in the centre pen. Normally my boss goes with her first pick, and if she gets a second one she might get my pick. But hee hee hee she picked mine!
So after a while we got the attention of the breeder, and my boss said, I like that one, but I was really after two ... what can you tell me about the others and so on and so forth. The breeder says ... come over here and talk in private for a minute. So anyway, they go off and talk, then come back, put an older doe in the centre pen and watch her for a while, then boss says yep, okay her and the first one.
So I went and pulled my ute round to the pens - the reason we went in two cars is because my boss and our other friend were heading on from the sale to a cat show, and I came to transport the goat home because they couldnt take it with them. So anyway I pulled up and loaded the two goats on, then went over to the table where the boss was fixing it all up, and I grabbed the travelling stock statements, and anyway, my boss/mentor/friend says something along the lines of 'oh by the way you take one of them home and keep it' and my befuddled brain had no idea what she was talking about, I thought she meant the travelling stock statements because the carrier has to file one copy of those ... then I realised she was talking about the two goats  She said that I could have the older doe - she's a joined yearling, due in September. The other doe my boss is keeping is a weaner. Anyway, I was literally speechless. I nearly fell over from shock. I've never experienced anything like it - I felt like a brick wall had slammed into me. I had no idea what to do or say I was just standing there confuzzled as all get out. The breeder said to me 'didnt you know, that is why she wanted you to come up here today, so you could pick out your birthday present' and then she went on to say that the doe's name is Linus - but thats a bit of a boys name and since its a 21st birthday present and she hasnt sent the regos in yet, I can pick a name for her. I still at this point wasnt comprehending it all, and I said but you already gave me a birthday present - a pink wheelie bin (for putting grain in at shows, all my show equipment is pink) and she said well now its a pink wheelie bin with a goat in it.
So I kindof eventually got over the shock of it all, and headed off again. Boss and friend headed off with the cats to Sydney, I detoured back down to Cowra, across to Boorowa then up to Picton to pick up the Damara ewe lamb. Basically I drove in a M pattern. Kinda annoying but there's a rather large mountain range I had to go around. I didnt get to the place with the sheep until about 6.20pm - it was dark, which meant I didnt see the turnoff and missed it, and when I pulled over to turn round I very nearly got bogged.
Anyway, I got to these people's place and I thought that they just had this lamb as a pet, turns out they breed Damaras, this girl was a rejected twin that the lady bottle fed. Well, she's having to move and sell up, but she didnt want to sell this one to just anyone, because she's a pet, she wanted her to go to a really good home. She was so happy I was able to take her - I plan to do a lot of shows and publicity outings with her, and she has already done a bit of that and enjoys it, so she is gonna have a great home with me. She just adores people and cuddles and that is exactly what I need.
So I loaded her in the ute - by this time the goats had stopped screaming and gone to bed, and now the lamb started up (by the way when I say lamb, she's not tiny. She's 12 mths in August lol) but after a while she lay down as well.
Now there was a long, lonely, cold, tiring trip home. I got back to the work property at 12.30am, unloaded all three of them into a pen there cos it was easier, chatted to the guy there who has watching the preggos for us, then headed home. Raced out to see the new lamby (too cute for words), and I was still all wound up so I thought I'd come here. Now I'm sleepy, and my electric blanket will be warm by now. Its 2.16am, I've been up for 22 hrs, driving for about 17 of those, I'm really loving the thought of bed right now!

What an amazing incredible day though!

    Pics tomorrow

Okay I confess I'm still here lurking ... readin emails even though I'm falling asleep on the keyboard lol but I think I'm getting a second wind

The ewe that lambed was the strawberry roan girl, Red Roulette (Roo for short). I thought Cassie would go first and my boss/mentor/friend thought Vegas would go first lol The ram lamb's name is of course Russian Roulette, Russ for short. The ewe lamb I picked up, I forgot to mention (being this tired will do that to you lol) is solid black (or will be once she sheds her baby coat) and her call name is Minty ... I'm trying to think up a registered name involving that, preferably along the casino/gambling theme ... Mint Condition, Mint Edition, Worth a Mint, ... hmm, I dunno.

My new doe :stars: is a SA FB Boer ... there are 3 big name studs here in Australia, that have the best goats in all the country, win all the shows etc. and she comes from one of them!  I cant afford goats from those studs, I just like to drool over them. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would own one!

As to her name ... she is Linus (which is yuck and I can change), her mum is Lyn and her dad is Rex. The only thing I've come up with so far is Lexi.

So guys ... name suggestions for both the black damara ewe lamb, and my new boer doe?

Well, you could name the doe Lexus, like the car since she is high class! It's close to Lexi. *laughs* Worth a Mint is a cute name for the lamb.

nah, more like my forehead with a keyboard print in it lol

I'm going to head over to work shortly to feed up etc, will take a pic of her then and post it tonight at some ungodly hour.

Here are a couple of bad pics of the ram lamb born yesterday - mum took them and didnt get real close. I would have taken more today but we've had slight problems ... I grabbed him this morning and weighed him, like I do all my other goats and sheep. But, seems like he smells too much of me now and she's not keen on him at all. She sort of walks up to him, talks, then backs off quick smart and wont let him feed :sigh: I hate that this is my fault. I should have known better. I know its a risk but I havent had any problems with my other sheep and goats, and mum said she picked him up very briefly yesterday and she'd been a very very good mum :sigh: anyway, she's not being too too violent with him at the moment, just nudging him away and back off from him. So I figure I'll leave them for a few hours, she's still interested in him, I'll see what happens, maybe it will calm down, and if its still a problem late afternoon I will have to restrain her and let him feed, rub him under her butt etc.

Man oh man he is so cute and pretty, I'll get better photos tomorrow. Mum just came in and said she just let him feed, so I think that crisis is averted for now. I dont want to disturb them for a while. When I weigh the next one I'll have to be very careful not to touch it too much - this little guy I picked up and held at my chest for quite a while because we had problems with the scales and he was crying and squirming. So I cuddled him tight and he was happy. But obviously he smelled too much like me. Not a problem with my other animals, but these are a whole different ball game lol

she loves him again, so its all good

she ate the entire placenta, its amazing she and the pen both are so clean you wouldnt know she'd lambed in there. I have fostering oil which works a treat, I would have used that if necessary, but I had a feeling in a few hours she'd get over it, and she did.

he's coloured like a boer ... brown head, white body, and some splashes of brown all over. very cute, just wait till tomorrow I will be inundating (sp?) you with photos! lol
