Wry neck?

5502 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Boer Mama
I have a Kiko for who was down with pregnancy toxemia and kidded on Christmas day. Had twins, which are fine. Doe was able to get up on her feet 5 days after kidding. Last week (1 month post-partum) she started showing torticollis and now her neck is rotated about 45 degrees to the left. I'm looking for guidance as to why but more importantly what to do for her.

It sounds like she may have polio or listeriosis. I would start treatment for those immediately because they won't hurt her even if that is not the problem. You will need to treat every 6 hours with thiamine and penicillin. Here is more information:

Yes - high doses of penicillin and fortified B-Complex or Thiamine given around the clock is essential!

Do you notice any jittery eyes, drooling?
No drooling and not circling. But she's in a small (12x12) pens with the kids so maybe I'd see it if she had more space. I have the B complex on hand but I'll have to get the penecillin.
Be sure to check rectal temperature and FAMACHA score as well to rule out other issues.

Cab I give them penicillin and b complex back to back. And how much for a 5 month old goat.
