We made a quick decision on Sunday when visiting a friend who has Alpines to get this sweet little girl. She is an Alpine/Saanen cross, so we are hoping for some milk out of her once she is old enough. This is the first non-Nigerian for us so it should be interesting. She is a sweetheart though, very tame, and taking some of the pressure off Diamond, our newest ND doe. Here are some pics! Has anyone ever had this type of cross? Do they produce well, kid well, etc??? :lovey:
Awww, very pretty lil' girl! Congrats! As far as milk production, with that cross I'm betting a gallon a day as a FF!
WHOA! For real? That really gets me excited to start milking. We have a doe in milk right now...the kids are going to leave within the next 10 days or so-so we are trying to maybe get a milking stand put together to try and learn (or try to begin learning) how to milk her (she is a Nigerian Dwarf). That way when Fiona kids, we will have the stand, and will know more of what we are doing. YAY! This particular doe's mother milks over a gallon a day, and she is combined with the Saanen breed who is known for milk production. CooL!
