So my goat had been off his treatment for about a full week now. I did unintentionally go over the intended treatment window as they did not specify. I assumed I was to continue treatment until the bottles where used up. He was on a couple other meds at the beginning, but at the end he was getting penicillin, dexamethasone and thiamine. He had the head tilt, the left side of his face was pretty much not useful. Since then he is back to himself almost entirely. However I noticed tonight that he has less reaction in that left eye, he would roll it back instead of blink as he got better. He has been drooling a lot, but my biggest concern was the backward steps with his eye. He seemed a bit wobbly today as well. I'm currently waiting on a call from my vet in the morning, but I figured I would get on here and ask the question, is this just his body adjusting to being off the meds even after a week? I've given him a thiamine shot again today, as well as another time or two in the past week.

Did you gradually wean off the dexamethasone by lowering the dose each day or was it a cold turkey stop?

My Elfi had listeriosis and recovered with treatment. She got her shots for 11 days.
Some of the uneven face took its time to fully get back to normal. My vet explained at that point it would take time, not more treatment. I hope you get a clear answer from your vet tomorrow,

I agree dex needs to be very slowly weaned off. How many CC was he getting for the once a day shot. I also do agree that sometimes time is needed, but if it looks like he’s going backwards I would ask your vet about more dex so you can wean off slower
So update, my vet wants me to go ahead and resume dexamethasone and thiamine. I can't remember exactly the dosage and for how long since I quickly listened to it at work. But I will get it written down when i get home.
