Hi all goatkeeper friends! I'm brand new on here tonight, and not very clever with tech stuff, but giving it a go. One of my pygmy goats developed a runny nose a few weeks ago, and soon after, the top of his nose started to get a thick hard crust growing on it. He was still happy enough, with all normal behaviour and a good appetite. Vets have treated him with all different antibiotics but nothing has helped, and crusty spots are now appearing around his mouth. Has anyone had experience of a problem like this please.. ? .. or any advice on how to treat it..? I am so worried and just want to help him.

Does he currently have a runny nose..or just the scabby stuff now?
Clear or white nasal discharge can be a cold or allergies.. yellow or green can Indicate infection. Hows his temp? ( 101 5 -103 5 is normal range)
On the scabs..if they are thick scabs sores..maybe sore mouth. Can you post a picture?

If this is sore mouth (also known as ORF) you need to wear gloves. You can catch it. A picture would help but you can wash the area with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water..(catch any scabs in a paper towel to dispose of. Pat dry and use one if the following
Chlorhexidine
Tomorrow mastitis treatment
Diluted iodine or
Diluted tea tree essential oil.
Do the treatment 2x a day.
Boosting immune system with fresh raw garlic and probiotics as well as vit c. Ca. Help. If sore mouth. Has to run its course but treatment speeds it along and keeps secondary infection away.

Hum..sure looks like ORF. Try the garlic, vit c and tea tree..let's see how he does. Be sure to add the tea tree to carrier oil.
