My goat, Nya, has cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). My vet thinks that she has 6 months -1 year left to live. My vet gave me banamine to give to her when she is pain.
From what I understand, banamine should be given in the muscle. I’m a bit nervous to give her an IM injection, I’ve given sq but never IM. My question is, is there any other way I could give it? Can banamine be given sq? I know in horses it can be given orally, but in goats?
Right now I’ve been giving her a 15mg meloxicam tablet when I notice she’s uncomfortable/painful. I’ve posted about this on one of the goat facebook groups and everyone said not to give banamine because it can cause ulcers, and to give meloxicam instead. Since she only has a limited time to live, I’m not super concerned about ulcers, I just want to make sure she’s comfortable. If banamine could be given orally, can goats have an ulcer guard like they give to horses?
If banamine can only be given IM, do y’all have any tips or advice on how best to give it?
