Based on my experience, it is worth the risk, because it is the only thing that saved my goat that could barely walk anymore!!!!

Also, I recently heard a podcast by Deborah Neiman that Red Cell can actually hamper anemia recovery. I thought that was interesting as that is a common medicine in use.
I would still be cautious and only use it in those extreme cases. If the goat is not down and out and otherwise in decent health, then I would consider something safer if it were my goat unless under veterinary supervision and recommended (although not all vets are goat knowledgeable).
This is JMO, just like your podcast is a person's opinion. I've just seen too many issues to safely recommend pig iron.
I wish I knew more about using Chlorophyll, I see it recommended by several people on FB, a lot of people are going to it in aiding anemia treatment, but I just haven't needed to look into it (yet). We rarely deal with anemia, but when we do I've successfully used the anemia trio with no issues at all again: Red Cell, B-Complex and organic Apple Cider Vinegar.

If Pig Iron works for you and you have no issues, that is good, stick with what works for you.
Definitely do the fecals before and after deworming, make sure they work. Or, look into getting the supplies to do your own, it really is not expensive or hard to do. I've been doing my own for 5 years. It takes so much guess work out of it. Have a goat scour or acting off? Grab some poo, and check it out vs having to wait on the vet.

Pig iron is 4 cc per 100 pounds. Sub q. Be sure to have epinephrine or a large dose of benadryl ready to give in case its needed. Epinephrine needs to be drawn up and ready....

Best wishes

Do I remember correctly that the first week you give a shot once a day and then one shot per week for a couple weeks?

Yes..once a day for a week then once a week until famacha is improving.

Yes^^^ this is true of any injectable medication...

I've went ahead with the pig iron, and after the second dose still no shock!!!

In regards to MeadowmistLabs I don't see an option for Johnes testing.

They have
Standard Centrifugal Fecal Flotation Test ($10 per test)

Baermann Test ($15 per test)

Fecal Sedimentation Test ($15 per test)

Do you have a local vet that can test? I really don't know what a vet would charge. Any chance you have a livestock diagnostics lab nearby? We have one 15 minutes away if we ever need to do any testing like this (We use them for pregnancy tests).

Hopefully you get some answers as to what is causing the anemia and hopefully it's something easily treated.

Meadowmistlabs.com does not do disease testing. Only fecals for parasites. Use WADDL labs for testing disease.

Im very sorry 😞
