Awe, I’m sure the ladies still love him!

out of my 7 chickens hatched this year, I have 2 black roosters, they’re copper rock marens but they have gold feathering in their necks that look really neat. Then one of my white chickens is a roo too. I’m contemplating keeping one of the black ones and downsizing my old roo population…

I just happen to look out the window this morning's dawn, to see a falcon glide under a big oak and land on my chicken coop. While always fascinated by Mother Natures antics, I was also annoyed. I flew (okay, hobbled) down the stairs and raced (okay, lumbered) to the coop. I probably got to within 10m (10.93613 yards) before he flew up into a tree. Then, viciously smacking my hands together, making a raucous clapping sound, he flew into a higher tree. And there I left him, since my attempts at making additional noise to scare him away seemed to just amuse him.

I bet the black roosters with gold neck feathering are gorgeous!

Did you buy a batch of new chicks this year as well, or just broody raised?

Just had a color broodys hatch out babies since I’ve not been very watchful 😅
I actually had another mama hatch out 7 chicks just a few days ago! Dangit… 😅

Chickens like a bit of grass.

My chickens are confined to their quarters since Mother Nature is anxious to cull my flock this time of year and invariably we disagree on which ones should be culled. So I try to remember to give then a handful of grass blades every day, now that I have some green grass growing. They don't eat a lot of it, just a few blades each, but they do seem to want some everyday.

I don't remember to do it as often as I want to, so I was hoping that writing about it here will help me to remember more often.
