I would like to make my own buck/wether treats with preventative for urinariry calci in mind. I run my buck with my does for several months, so hand feeding him a treat daily would be easier than mixing ammonium chloride in all the loose minerals, or feed. They do get acv in the water, loose minerals and all the regular good stuff, and I have never had UC, but hear the horror stories...

I’m thinking something with kelp as well? I have no idea on the measurements, little biscuits seems ideal, willing to experiments and post results. I have seen someone who sells them, but I would like to make my own. Any tips?? What is the daily ac dose again? I can start figuring with that...

I am guessing it is in a powder form, so maybe if you do this

  • Equal parts of flour, peanut butter, and mollasses
  • stir really good until it is the consistancy of play-dough if it is too goopy, add more flour.
  • I honestley dont even measure, i just put about equal parts
It is my DIY pill hider that i use on the goats but i sometimes use it for a treat and they love it! you could just roll up a litttle bit of ammomnium chloride into it.

@Redbarngoatfarm I've always seen you as one of my experts here. And you take in stride the issues of achieving nutritional and health related goals in Canada as opposed to the U.S. (Where we can get what we want whether we need it or not)

After so many years of avoiding UC, you are concerned about your bucks and wethers contracting it.

May I ask, has something changed for you, that this has become a forefront concern and you no longer think your regimen is sufficient?

Your answer will help my answer to be of help, I assure you. I don't want to address something you would regard as a given, because I know you would already have addressed your givens.

I hesitate to offer my "experts" ideas, especially when they are proficient in countries other than my own.

Mariarose, you made me giggle, thank you for the compliment.(blush)

Nothing has changed, yes I have ac on hand just in case, and have never dealt with it. BUT I think I have had just about everything else goats can get now to date...and maybe I am due.....and as I head into the loooooong winter ‘waiting for my kids’ season I guess I have idle hands! All the chores done, snow on the ground, way too much time on my hands! :waiting:

And yes Karen, baking would be a concern...maybe I should go do some amazon shopping...I hear they have some cool new goat slogger boots available
:clever:

Then, I have NOTHING to offer. You are doing great. I know you pay attention to minerals, to nutrition, to exercise, to........ everything. There is literally nothing I can suggest to you that you are not already on top of. I'm outa here. :gottago:
