Hey everybody!

Happy New Year! I haven't been on much since life has been busy so I figured I'd start with a bit of an update. I currently have 7 goats, 5 does and 2 bucks, who I'll introduce with their due dates below. I have my 3 sows, Carrie, Agatha, and Mildred who are all bred to Bruce for March farrowings. I don't have current pictures of them but will try to get some this weekend. I think I'm starting to see baby bumps on them! I also have 17 feeder piglets and 1 feeder pig which I'm regretting now that I'm hauling water by hand every day. 😅 I still have my chicken flock as well as my rabbit herd although I took a break from rabbit litters this fall since I didn't have time to deal with them. If I end up breeding any of them in the spring I'll post pictures of them as well. Without further ado, onto the pictures!

My first up doe is Rancho Draco Mipsy. She's due much earlier than I would like since I didn't get Mia's buckling out of the doe pasture early enough this summer. She is Mia's 2023 doeling and this will be her first freshen. She's due 1/31 and bred to Rancho Draco Mark, her full brother.

Next up is Serenity. This will be her 7th freshening at 9 years old. She was bred to Pricker Patch Farm Jake when she came into heat but Bodhi broke in with her later in her cycle so it's possible she could be carrying his kids instead. My bucks were very naughty this fall. 🤪 She's due 3/19.

My third and last pregnant doe is Pricker Patch Farm Mia. She is bred to Kinder Korner Bodhi and is due 3/26. This will be her 3rd freshening at 3 years old, all of which have been this pairing. I've been happy with the results in the past so am excited to see what she produces.

I can't leave out my old lady, Brownie, who will be 11 this spring. She's still in milk currently and I'm hoping to be able to milk her through but she's only producing a pint a day at the moment so I'm not sure she'll stay in milk until spring. I don't have plans to breed her again as she was pretty miserable towards the end of her last pregnancy.

I also have Marsha, Mia's 2024 doeling.

Here's Bodhi having his morning stretch. He won't let me near his hindquarter with a scissors to get the chicken poop out. It's driving me nuts.
Image

My picture of Jake is very outdated as I sadly lost him to silent pneumonia this fall.
Image

And finally, Mark. He likely won't be staying long term but I needed a companion for Bodhi so he's staying for at least a few months.

I'm a bit on the fence still but I'm thinking twins for Mipsy. 22 days to go!

It is so nice to see your goats again! They all look great!
I am so sorry you lost Jake. 😢

Bucks seem to have been naughty in many places this season.
Good luck with Mipsy, Serenity and Mia.
I bet Brownie’s milk will increase again as the days get longer.

Thank you ❤

I'm hoping that will be the case, that some longer days and maybe fresh browse if she can keep milking until then will up her production.

I'm so sorry about Jake, I had no idea. 😞

I'm really interested to see what Mipsy has since she was bred to her full brother. I feel like since both their parents are so nice, maybe the kids will be really nice too. I know it's not ideal, but at least there could be the potential for some decent kids. Will you be able to register those kids? Is Mark registered?

Marsha is stinking adorable. 😘 I think Mia's babies always have the cutest faces. 🥰

What the heck are you doing with 17+1 feeder pigs?! 😮😄 Will you be processing all of them or will some of them be for sale?

Thank you everyone 💔 I'm missing Jake's calls from the barn and feeling the loss in my breeding program as well.

Such a pretty herd! I really love Marsha, she has a very sweet face!!! 🥰
I am so very sorry about Jake.🥺
Mark sure was a naughty boy!😟Hopefully they will be lovely kids!
I can't wait to see all your little cuties!😍
Mia pretty reliably passes on her doll face. It makes it very hard to want to share her kids with anyone else!

Good to hear from you again!
As far as naughty bucks go- I’m right there with you this year 😅
On the bright side, that means we only have a couple more weeks to wait before we get to see your first little ones of the season!
Sorry you lost Jake 😢
I am excited to have some babies to love on. I'm only hoping that we get a warm weather front for a week or so to let the kid(s) get on their feet before having to deal with our bitter February weather.

I haven't sent in his paperwork yet but yes he will be so these kids will be registerable. I'm curious as well. My main concern is that they may end up being quite small as Mipsy and Mark both have inherited their father's stature.

I am asking myself that as well. :ROFLMAO: Some will be processed for ourselves and others will be processed for friends and family. I may haul some to auction as they're already going through over 50 lbs of feed and a bale of hay a day.

Hey there! Glad you are back. This must be the Bratty, misbehaving, break out Buck year! Its awful. Im so sorry about Jake! Thats awful!
Your girls look great! Cant believe Brownie is 11 now!
Neither can I! Where has the time gone?

I am so sorry about Jake. 😢

So glad you are back. 🙏

Everyone looks great. 😊

We got a few inches of snow last night here. Some were happier than others about it. 😂 Marsha especially loves eating the snow.

I think Brownie is just hoping it will go away.

I got some pictures of the pigs this morning. They aren't showing enough to really see on camera yet though.

Mildred, due 3/25. She didn't want to smile for the camera so Bruce did it for her.

Carrie, due 3/29.

Agatha, due 4/1.

Not exactly farm related update but I wanted to share. 😁 Here's the sunrise over the pig pens the other morning.
Image

I had this visitor as I was taking the sunrise picture. I've seen him a handful of times over the past few years but only ever briefly and at a distance. I've always been a little stumped as to exactly what he is. We mostly have Red Tailed Hawks and Coopers Hawks around us, of which he is neither. I was able to get pictures of him to post to a birding group and they IDed him as a dark morph Rough-legged Hawk. They nest up in the Arctic so super cool to see the same bird returning to our area year after year.

He's so neat! I'll have to show him to my youngest sister. She is a huge bird of prey enthusiast.

Are you in for some major cold temps coming soon? My mom saw that some areas of Minnesota are about to get blasted. 🥶

I love them as well. I actually had been pretty heavily considering getting a falconry permit before I got livestock. It's still something I'd like to do at some point but I don't really have the time for both that and the other animals.

Yes, it has been very cold this weekend. Air temps have been below zero for the past couple days with wind chills regularly 20 degrees below air temp. Our high today was -3 but the windchill never got above -13. Our wind finally died tonight but air temp as I'm typing this is -13. I'm really hoping for some warmer weather for kidding.

My sister is actually currently studying to become a falconer. She'll be going to Raleigh in a few weeks to take her test to get her license!

Brr, I do hope the cold snap ends before you kid!
That’s really neat that your hawk keeps returning to hang out at your place. As long as he doesn’t get to brave with your small critters 😅
So far, he's just been after smaller animals in the pasture. I'm hoping it stays that way! Actually, the only thing I've ever had come after the chickens was a young bald eagle.

That's awesome! You'll have to keep us updated on her adventures.
